16 TAM The Davis Stakes (GIII) [KYD]
$250.000 3yo 1 1/8m Dirt 120 lbs
Oldsmar is the destination as we look at the field for The Davis Stakes (GIII) and hopes are always high for the sophomores on the TC Trail. I landed on All Take as my cop choice today, despite making his first start for the new connections. I like his running style and I think this is a spot where the new owners can start getting some money back on their investment. You always have to look at the big barn and Mb has a pair in this one. I put Killer Instinct in the second spot despite those poor recent graded efforts. If he can run back to that DMR Futurity race, I think he could be a big horse today. The anticipation is always ramped up for these races, so grab a cold snack and let’s head down to the rail for what should be a good one.
Here’s The Field –
Got the job done last out taking down MSW types at GP and he’s a horse that shows a want for a route of ground. Showing a closing kick in all of his race, throwing out the debut, he looks like the added ground should be something that fits him well… and he may come with some odds.
Broke maiden at first asking, then ran mid pack in a couple of races before the vet stopped by the stall… that seemed to get his attention as he ran off to win at SA taking down Cal bred stakes company. He’s another that looks like the distance should fit his style, so give him a big chance here today.
Broke maiden like a gangster, getting home by eight lengths on a sloppy track in SoFla, changed hands and has been third in both starts for the new connections. His only stakes start was an eighth at SA but he closed to only be beaten a length so this distance may be the ticket for him to pull the upset.
Broke maiden at DMR then came back to be third in the Pasco Stakes over this surface last out. He was close in a couple of other high-end maiden races so he’s a horse that could have some ability. He was eighth in his only two turn tussle, which may be a down side.
He’s changed hands twice in his last few starts and is fresh off of the van, changing hands just a couple of days ago. Had a second (DH) in the Grey Stakes (GIII) and a win in the Gun Runner at FG for the prior conditioner, so he certainly looks like a horse that can run. I’d use him on all exotics.
The big barn brings this one in off of a nice win at FG vs Alw types shere he closed well as the 5/2 favorite. Has a pair of runner up finishes in SoFla vs state bred stakes company, and broke maiden over there as well. Obviously, this outfit knows a good horse and you have to give him a look.
Broke maiden at SA in his first race and has a number of close finishes since, but hasn’t made it back to the winner’s circle after that three length maiden score. He was third in the ELP Juv and has a runner-up effort vs FG Alw company, but he obviously has to turn it around to be a serious threat today.
Another from the Mb Stable and you have to give this one a serious looks here, turning it around and winning at SA vs Alw company. He struggled a bit vs graded horses, but was the runner up in the DMR Futurity, so don’t sleep on him. He could be a big horse today.
Changed hands after a seventh place finish at GP vs Alw horses, but he was tough in a trio of CA-bred stakes up at WO, including a win in the Muskoka. The new owners go for the gusto, raising him in class and stretching him out, so it could be an interesting trip.
Has been competitive vs NY bred stakes company, but has struggled a big in open stakes showing a fifth in the Nashua (GII) and beat one in the LA Futurity (GII). Came back to be fourth in another NY bred stakes, so he’s going to need his best to be part of this one.
Draws in off of the AE list after a couple of scratches and this look like an acid test for the one time winner. He’s been close in a few Alw races and was second going the distance in an Alw race at GP in his most recent. Still, this looks like a tough spot.
