Six-Pack of Ladies Go Sprinting in Las Flores Stakes at SA

3/13/2022

4  SA    Las Flores Stakes (GIII)

        $100.000         4yo&Up  F&M          6f  Dirt           123lbs +penalties

We head out to the left-coast to catch a small field of six set to go six… furlongs that is, and we look at the field for the Las Flores Stakes (GIII) on Sunday.  I’m sure I’ll get some flack taking the top weight in this one but Last Lady just looks too good to me.  Five wins from twelve lifetime starts, two graded wins in her last five races and she just missed at KEE when second in that GI race… she just looks the best to me.  I also like Malagan Girl and Story To Tell, so let’s put them on the bottom of the exacta and tri and see if we can cash a ticket in this one.

Here’s The Field –

1
Canary For One    Mo Mentum Farm    Van Dyke D   123   5/1

Closed out ’21 with a win in the Garland of Roses at AQU, and has been mid-pack in both of her ’22 starts.  She won four of nine last season, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she turned it around and gave a big effort today.

2
Sin City Foul    Asgar    Pyfer J   123   6/1

Claimed 3 back for just $8.500 and has proven to be a very smart tag.  Second in a pair of Alw race then beat NY-bred stakes types in the Broadway at AQU last out, so she looks like she’s getting better with age.  Give her a shot today.

3
Malagan Girl    Spankys Barn    Bravo J   123   4/1

Four wins and an impressive eleven runner-up finishes from her twenty-five race career.  Add in a pair of thirds and you know she certainly brings home checks… no reason to think anything different today, give her a big look.

4
   Last Lady    Lindeman Prairie    Velazquez J R   125   8/5

She carries two extra pounds but I think we have our post-time favorite.  She has a pair of graded wins from her last five starts and was second in the Spinster (GI) at KEE, so there’s no doubt she’s a big horse.  The weight, ehhh, I’d look past it.

5
Story To Tell    Mb Stables    Cedillo A   123   9/2

Kicked off ’21 with a nice win at the FG vs Alw foes and she had four wins from eleven starts last season, so she’s certainly a horse to watch.  The big barn is always formidable and I think you have to use her on all tickets today.

6
Free Farley Party    Night Rider Stables    Smith M E   123   5/1

Another that won her lone ’21 start going wire to wire at DED vs LA-bred stakes company in that five furlong sprint.  She won half of her six seasonal starts in ’21.
