7 SA Santa Ana Stakes (GIII)
$125.000 4yo&Up F&M 1 1/4m Turf 123lbs +penalties
A small field of five older ladies will be headed to the SA lawn as we look at the field for the Santa Ana Stakes (GIII), a mile and a quarter test with a nice purse of $125,000. I took Classic Princess as the top selection in this one. Not only is she consistent, which many of these are, but she just seems to know how to get to the winner’s circle. Liohi is another that loves it long, green and holds her own at every start. I really won’t be surprised by any finish here, this is a tough bunch of ladies.
Here’s The Field –
|
Lost Goddess | Nakamura Stables | Curatolo R | 123 | 3/1 |
She’s a very consistent type that closed out ’21 with a third in the Frankel (GIII), over this course, then kicked-off ’22 with a runner-up finish in the Endeavor BC (GIII) at TAM. She likes a route of ground and loves the green stuff so give her a big look today.
|
Loihi | Martyparty | Maldonado E | 123 | 3/1 |
Four wins from nine starts last season and she’s keeping it hot this year with a win vs Alw company and a solid second in the La Prevoyante Hcp (GIII) at GP. She never seems to miss a check and no reason to doubt her today, I think you have to use her on your tickets.
|
Proud Eights | Mb Stables | Pyfer J | 123 | 9/2 |
She’s put some serious cash in the bank over time but her last few haven’t been up to standards. She was sixth in the Pegasus F&M Turf (GIII) and a fourth over this surface when she tired vs Alw company. Her best would get the job done, but I’m not sure she has her best right now.
|
Classic Princess | Maxmillion Farm | Gonzalez Ru | 123 | 9/5 |
She’s won four of her last six and missed a nose in one of the other starts… the other was a seventh on BC Day and that’s not nothing to be ashamed of either. I think the table sets nice for her today, and I think you have to give her a big chance to get the job done.
|
Folsom Tradition | Hippyheart | Baze T C | 123 | 6/1 |
Another very consistent type that seems to bring home a check just about every time she steps on the track. She was eighth in the Flower Bowl (GI) but other than that, she’s been right there in all starts. Don’t ignore her.
