New Orleans Handicap – Grade II
FG Race #11 1 1/8m Dirt Stake
Purse $500.000 For Four Year Olds And Upward.
1st Champion In Action Night Rider Stables Hernandez B J Jr
Well the seven year old was all class today making it two from two for the year grasping the win by a neck. His form goes a bit up and down but that does seem to be the way of things these days, win one day and then a few indifferent races and then win again, the secret being you have to be good enough to win and then put up with the defeats before you pick up races like this. The fact is this is a proven grade one winner, the horse with the most wins and the biggest purse haul in the race gifted the perfect draw and a generous mark by the handicapper. He is a great old champion that is for sure and this stable seems to be able to keep these old timers going for longer than most.
2nd Hint Of Sugar Arindel Jaramillo E
Went to the front for the first time since July 2020 and very nearly got the big win he has promised for so long. It is clear the instructions improved the effort today and maybe this is the start of good things for the 1.36 worker.
3rd First Sargeant High Voltage Franco M
Stalked the lead and kept on well enough for third under a length behind. Its amazing how a few pounds can improve a horse but this one has been working like a champ for a while now and this was a run much closer to those works.
4th Saturday Khartoum Rousee Saez L
Drawn the car park the eight year old did really well to get into fourth he has had his best start to the year for a while and maybe there is a big win in the old fella yet.
