The Gallorette Stakes (Grade 3)- $150.000 Purse
PIM- For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Turf
May 21, 2022
Female turf horses will get their chance to shine at PIM as a part of the PRK undercard as the 18th running of the Grade 3 Gallorette Stakes goes to post. It did not attract a large field, but we will have five going to post, with one three-year old going up against older horses with a five-pound weight allowance. Every year since 2017, the Gallorette has been won by a three-year-old, but that comes with a caveat in that last year, we had a dead heat. Three-year-old Silver Cobra, trained by Arindel, and four-year-old Fancifully, trained by Smokey Stover, could not be separated in the photo and would share the winner’s portion of the purse. Here we are a year later, and neither horse is still active, and neither did a lot of racing for the rest of 2021, either. Between them, they have already given birth to a combined six foals! Other recent winners include Alligator and Hopewell Tradition. Nice names to try and live up to! Let’s see the five that will look to do exactly that!
#1- Hollywood Tours (Threshold, ridden by J Pimentel)- This is the filly who will be hoping to extend the streak of success for three year olds in the race. She is lightly raced, with only five starts as she has been brought along patiently. Has three wins up to this point, with one coming in her stake debut last month, the $100.000 Memories of Silver against fillies her age, so this is a great next stop on her career tour. Whether it will be a picture-perfect result still remains to be seen.
#2- Emo Storm (Arindel, ridden by Mario Gutierrez)- Has been a very consistent horse in terms of finishing in the top two spots. Out of eleven starts, she has four wins and two seconds, and if you cut off her first four starts, six of them are in her last seven races. So, she has been very consistent and reliable. Two close calls in similar races, placing second in the Grade 3 Fox at GP and the Grade 3 Wilshire three weeks ago at SA. It might finally be time for her to win of them, looks like a good choice here.
#3- Stellar Agent (Night Rider Stables, ridden by F Lynch)- Early last year, Night Rider Stables picked this filly up in a $20.000 claimer, and since then has done very well to bring her along. A second place finish at SAR in an allowance may have been what it took for the trainer to enter her in bigger races and has mostly been in stakes since then. Has bounced around between sprinting and going long and while the results are not there yet, they may be coming soon.
#4- Shes One Of A Kind (Maxmillion Farm, ridden by Ch Marquez)- This veteran of 20 career starts got off to promising start in her career, appearing in the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf in 2020. The wins have come since then, and she has hit the board more often than not. Only one of the wins has come at this level, the Grade 3 ONT Colleen Stakes. The Gallorette is a bit of a step down from some of the competition she has been up against, so things might be aligned for her to get that second stake win here.
#5- Pure Motor (Night Rider Stables, ridden by D E Centeno)- The stablemate of Stellar Agent has been no stranger to the winner’s circle, with eleven victories in 28 starts and earnings over $360.000. The six year old only recently has been running at the stake level, and even tried the Grade 1 Wiley last month. She ran well there, too, but finishing fifth by less than a length did not earn her a check. I’d look for a similar effort here, which should yield a better result.
Prediction: 2-4-5-1
