Jokerjoes gets his first Grade 2 win as Thundering Speed noses out Eclipse My Knowledge for the victory in the Eclipse Stakes (GII). It was a three-horse photo as Saturday Khartoum was just another head back in third, then another length to Pyragorn got the minor share. It was five lengths from first to worst in this one. The final running time was 1:41.09 for the mile and a sixteenth main track stakes.
It’s absolutely shameful how the payoffs went in this race, only proving that the daily handicapping contest is useless.
Thundering Speed is a 5yo bay gelding by King Of Hearts – Thunder Mountain, by Mr Creepy, and he was bred in ON by Jediminds Stable. He was acquired by Jokerjoes for $60.000 at the Sep 21 Auction. This was his fifth win from twenty-three lifetime stars, his second win of the year, and he now has lifetime earnings of $275.140. Congrats to the Connections.

Thundering Speed mid pack early on the rail, moved to 2p first turn beginning to press forward, swung to 5p for the drive, closed determinedly down the lane taking over late, won driving. Eclipse My Knowledge broke alertly, clear lead into the lane, run down by foe at the wire. Saturday Khartoum tracked the pace throughout, missed in a photo. Pyragorn tracked the pace from an inside position, no excuse. Contradiction off a step slow, moved forward while wide, fanned for the drive, evenly. Blown Coverage mid-pack early, lost ground through the turn and onto the backside, passed tiring rivals. Tiz Trippi trailed, fanned for the drive, passed tiring rivals. Hint Of Sugar rated back early, moved forward backside, tired. The Captain flashed speed, tired. Wrangler mid-pack early, tired. Cherokee Twins early interest, tired. Toothpaste was not a factor.
