Cold Weather Rider Proves That Age Is No Barrier In The Shoemaker

Shoemaker Mile – Grade I [BC]
1 Mile Turf Stake Purse $500.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.

1st        Cold Weather Rider     Night Rider Stables       Cedillo A

Well it has to be said i was worried about the deep closers in this race as the old new race engine seemed to favor pace but the new new race engine certainly seems to be much fairer. Add to that the fact that for some reason Cinnamon Strike decided to lead at incredibly fast splits thus setting up a race where closers had a chance and everything set up perfectly for this horse. Having said that there were plenty of good closers in this race and whilst the rest didn’t fair so well this eight year old decided that today was his day.Storming through late like a formula one car in a field of bicycles he got up by a head to put himself into the BC and i for one hope he manages to last that long.

2nd         Jakarta       Nakamura Stables        Carrasco V R

Stalking a crazy fast pace is normally the kiss of death but i thought this one had pulled off a remarkable win before Cold Weather Rider came out of the clouds. This was a very good run, mark my words, and i feel that come the BC he is going to be a serious contender.

3rd      Silver Rocket         Crocker Ggs           Gutierrez Mario

I thought one of the three year olds may just squeak into a place and it turned out to be this one who also came from a mile behind and was flying at the end. I certainly think that this is the type to take full advantage of the weight allowance going forward and it went in to my black book for next time.

4th     Cinnamon Strike     Smokey Stover        Jaramillo E

Driver error? Copycat attempt? or pure race engine shenanigans, whatever sent this one out at crazy fractions it certainly didn’t help his chances but definitely won it for Cold Weather Rider. No idea where to put this performance in his record but the fact that he still managed to last home for fourth is a plus and if he is given a better chance next time i would expect a better run.
