It All Goes Perfectly to Plan for the Turf King

The Manhattan – Grade I

1 1/4 Mile Inner Turf Stake Purse $750.000 Open 4 Year Olds And Up.

1st     Last Way To The Beac    Maxmillion Farm      Velazquez J R

On a day when nothing much looked predictable it was nice to see one race which pretty much went as expected. Using the wide gate this tough front runner made the front from the gate and as Nevada Silver just couldn’t muster the early pace to push him dictated the race pretty much how he wanted. I love the fact that this ones sire could barely out run a small child but it is clear he inherited some of his granddads class. He didn’t start the year off too well with a terrible run in the Pegasus World Turf Cup but when this one gets the front early there is very little that can beat him and the writing was on the wall very early in this race. Since the Pegasus he has won three in a row and will now head to the BC to try and better last years effort.

2nd     Nevada Silver      Nakamura Stables      Wilson E J

Credit to the trainer in trying to take on the winner from the gate but when the horse gave up the lead and settled for the stalk i felt he gave up his winning chance. He was clawing back ground as they ran to the line but the winner looked comfortable enough and it never looked like he was going to go past. This was another fine effort though and i suspect he will be BC bound.

3rd     Winter Solstice      John Henry        Cedillo A

The seven year old looked cooked for a few runs but now looks to be back to his best and ran on well for third. in a race that was dominated by on speed he never looked like winning but this was a very good field and he ran his best race for some time to get third.

4th     Lets Do It Big Boy     RNP Stables    Ferrer J C

I thought from the inside gate that this one could be the one to put some pressure on the winner but he settled back and that was his winning chance gone. He ran his heart out as always but today it was fourth for the old warrior, maybe next time will be his turn again.
