NY-bred 3yo fillies take to the lawn as they will travel 7-furlongs on the BEL turf course in the $150.000 NY Stallion Series-Joy. Only a field of seven, but their are some bonafide runners that have signed-on as everyone will carry the same 122-pound impost. The top two from the G3 Soaring Softly head the group and, while Amy Is Shameful appears to be a standout, there are a few other stakes-placed horses in here as well. Here’s the field for the 16th running of the NYSS-Joy at BEL:
#1 Uppercase (Arindel/J.R. Velazquez): Rail filly broke her maiden at this trip before finishing 4th against a high dollar N1X group going a mile last time. Looks to be blessed with some early foot and is working well for her toughest assignment to date.
#2 Hollywood Romantik (D J C Racing Stables/J.J. Castellano): Absent of turf form, this lass looks pretty similar to the filly inside of her. Only has the maiden-breaker and was 2nd against a N1X group last time. Water is deeper here and the turf is still a bit of an unknown.
#3 Stacysmomgotitgoinon (Big Jd Racing/M. Franco): Filly broke her maiden going a furlong shorter on soft turf before two ITM efforts when she faced winners. Last effort was a runner-up in a G3 over a soft course and she’ll have to contend with the winner of that one in here. Has a chance for sure, but best races have been over the off-going.
#4 Amy Is Shameful (La Canada Racehorses/D. Davis): MGSW enters here off a victory in the G3 Soaring Softly. Have to believe that other barns weren’t too happy to see her name at the time entries were drawn. The obvious one to beat, but this is a quick return from the latest effort. Still, she looks very imposing at short odds.
#5 Great Beneficiary (Smokey Stover/L. Saez): Winner of three in a row (last two at the listed level) will stretch out from 5f for this one. She has tons of pace and her trainer is having a great season thus far. Not sure she’s ready for the filly just to her inside, but she’ll get a piece of this.
#6 Approved Sight (Mb Stables/K. Carmouche): Only one win, but she has five other ITM finishes from nine starts. Has yet to defeat winners, like a few others in here, and catches a particularly tough group for this level. Could improve with the second out on the lawn, but she’ll need to show more to best these.
#7 Killeen (First Flight Stable/J. Lezcano): Broke her maiden on debut at SAR last year but has yet to find the WC since. Returns to the lawn for the first time this season and that appears to be her preferred surface. Doesn’t draw well, but, with tons of speed inside of her, she should have ample pace to run at and perhaps grab a piece.
Final Analysis: Can’t get past the 4 as this feels like a stepping stone for her and not the final destination. We’ll try to get lucky with an exacta and play the 7 to run on for the place. Good luck to everyone in the NYSS-Joy at BEL!
