BEL Race #3 $150.000

NY-Bred 3YOs 122 Lbs 7F (T)

Track Record-1:19.58 (Swayback Cup-2007)

Stakes Record-1:20.20 (Cobra Skull-2018)

The NY-Breds take center stage at BEL on Sunday and the 15th running of the NYSS-Bid highlights the card.  Run at seven furlongs over the BEL turf, the Bid drew a half-dozen with its $150.000 purse.  The only stakes winner in the field, We Rumble, doesn’t have to give away pounds on the scale to his five rivals as all six runners will tote 122-pounds.  While that runner looks to be the horse to beat, he’s untested on turf and there are a couple up-and-comers that will try to challenge him.  Here’s the field for the 15th running of the NYSS-Bid:

#1 Lombardi Time (D J C Racing Stables/K. Carmouche): Rail horse enters off of a victory over winners at LS and has been in the money in seven of eight starts, all on the lawn.  Appears to have enough speed to lay close and will try to get first run.  Chance.

#2 Norski Raider (Mb Stables/L. Saez): Gelding returns here after a good 3rd-place effort at CD in his latest.  Doesn’t look to have much early go, so he will need some pace to be provided from someone so his run doesn’t lose effectiveness.  This spot is comparable to what he’s seen lately and he should compete well here.

#3 Hunt For Red October (Arindel/M. Franco): Two wins from five starts for this guy and both victories came over soft ground.  He’s seen good competition and the N1X win in his latest may give him some confidence to try stakes company again.  Hard to guess where he’ll be as his tactics have varied with the track conditions.

#4 Hufflepuff (Arindel/D. Davis): Stablemate to the 3, this guy was just behind the 2-horse here last time at CD.  His lone win came on the lawn, but trainer thought enough of his talent to put him in a G2 on the dirt.  Looks like he’ll be hitting his best stride late and should get a piece.

#5 Once Upon (Mb Stables/J. Lezcano): Interesting entry has defeated NY-bred foes in both wins and takes another step up the statebred ladder here.  Was last seen on the GG main track, but should appreciate getting back on the lawn.  Will probably lay just off the pace and gives trainer a solid 1-2 punch here.

#6 We Rumble (Kingelleinc/J.R. Velazquez): Gelding won on the main track against this kind of company back in January and is the only stakes winner in the field.  That makes him the “class” of the field, but this will be his first start on the grass.  Gets a little help as he should be able to clear the majority of the field and sit just off the pace.  Turf is the question, but he’s still the horse to beat.

Final Analysis: Going all in on the Mb Stables exacta; we’ll say 2-5 is how they finish in the NYSS-Bid.  Good luck to all involved.
