The Wild Applause- $100.000 Purse
BEL- For Fillies Three Years Old
One Mile on the Turf
June 25, 2022
The Wild Applause is an ungraded stake held at BEL, and this year we will have a field of six in it. Chances are, unless you own them (or have owned them), these are horses that you have never heard of before as no one has made over $100.000 in earnings to this point, and half the field has made less than $50.000. That doesn’t mean they are bad horses and you can see the potential that they have. But in some respects, this is an allowance field that runs in a race with a stake designation. Last year’s race was won by Juicy, who went wire to wire for D J C Racing Stables. She was productive for the rest of the year, and now serves as a broodmare. Here’s the field!
#1- Tellcharlieitsforyou (Nakamura Stables, ridden by K Carmouche)- In six career starts, this filly has hit the board each time, with two victories. She’s got plenty of experience running this distance or a little longer, and comes out an allowance with a higher purse than this race that she won. This is her first stake attempt.
#2- Zedikiah (A.m. Stable, ridden by L Saez)- Had a productive career for her prior trainer, Zoeller, winning four of six, but was not tested with high enough conditions. A.m. Stable claimed her for $10.000 and picked up her level of competition. That’s resulted in two third place finishes, and with that, Zedikiah is again moved up in class. Though with this field not having a stand out, it’s very doable.
#3- Tell The Queen (Nakamura Stables, ridden by F T Alvarado)- Not a stranger to running in ungraded stakes, as during the winter she made a couple attempts, but did not win either of them. Was moved to the grass in March, at TUP, and got the win though her speed figure doesn’t stand out for it. Fourth last month in the $75.000 Campanile for CA-breds. Between the two Nakamura fillies, I would choose her stablemate.
#4- Command All (TwinTowersRacing, ridden by J R Velazquez)- She’s earned more than anyone else in the field, coming in at $98.68 in that category. Helping the cause there was a victory in her last start, and allowance with a higher purse than this race. Had a tough finish to her two year old season against tough competition, but is getting it back together now and seems like a good choice in here.
#5- Just As Sharp (Paradise Stable, ridden by E Cancel)- After struggling on the dirt, she turned things around on the turf, winning at TUP, and then taking it from there with good second place performances in the China Doll Stakes, and the Hilltop Stakes, each races with similar conditions as this one. Don’t worry about the dud in between, this isn’t a graded quality field. All she needs to do is run the way she did in those ungraded stakes, because if she does, she hits the board, at worst.
#6- Safe Dance (London Racing, ridden by M Franco)- Makes her debut for the trainer after claiming her for $16.000 at PIM. Clearly, the trainer thinks much more highly of her to enter her in here, and she put forth a solid effort in that claimer, which she won. Not everything on her resume is pretty, but if the new trainer gets her to run well consistently, she’s one to watch in the future, if not here.
Prediction: 5-4-1-2
