BEL Race #1 $150.000

6-Furlongs Dirt

NY-Bred F&M 4+ 123 Lbs (plus penalties)

Track Record-1:07.36 (Alpha Ultimo-2005)

Stakes Record-1:09.13 (Easily Amused-2021)

The only race at BEL on Sunday is the 9th running of the Dancing Renee for NY-bred F&M 4-and-up going six furlongs on the main track.  As the most recent stakes-winners in the field of five, Durr and El Gran Condottieri will both tote 125-pounds while the other three runners will get in at the assigned weight of 123.  It’s an interesting race, so let’s meet the field for the Dancing Renee:

#1 Durr (Our Athletes/J.R. Velazquez 125): 4yo gets punished for that $80.000 stake win back in September as she looks for her first win since.  Does get lucky with the draw as well as the fact that she isn’t giving weight to any olders as all of these are 4yos.  Has tactical speed and figures to sit a good trip, but she needs to prove she still has the desire.

#2 Di Canzoni (Ace Racing Stable/J. Lezcano 123): Filly has been facing much softer company with mixed results since the February claim.  Does have a win for the new barn, but she takes a step up in company for this.  She’ll need someone to provide some pace if she wants to keep settling deeper in the field before being produced for run.  Has a chance to get a piece of this if they go too fast early.

#3 El Gran Condottieri (First Flight Stable/J.J. Castellano 125): Filly seems to have found a home at this level, but she gets penalized on the scale for the April win at CD.  Has enoug early foot to stay in touch with the leader and should be able to get to the rail from here.  She’s the class of the field, but the two pounds is definitely a factor to consider.  Contender.

#4 Tunted (Night Rider Stables/F. Prat 123): Front-running sort couldn’t hold off the horse to her inside when they faced-off in the aforementioned CD contest.  She was only beaten a length that day, but she figures to at least have some company on the front-end for this one.  Not sure she wins, but she’ll be in front at some point.

#5 Wow (D J C Racing Stables/M. Franco 123): Filly started 2022 with three consecutive wins before a 4th in the Critical Eye last out.  That one was run at the flat-mile and she’s shown to be a more productive sprinter, so she should appreciate the turn back in trip.  She likes to sit just off of the pace before trying to get first run, and that could prove just the recipe for success in here.

Final Analysis: 5-3 is how we see them crossing the wire in the Dancing Renee.  Good luck everyone!
