SAR – 1 1/8 Mile – Dirt
For Three Years Olds
July 29, 2022
After a slow start, Angel Dust (Arindel) overcame traffic to get to the wire a head in front of Shamo (Mb Stables).
Polymath (Gdp Inc) was fastest away, but Fifty Lucky (D J C Racing Stables) quickly pressed the lead and drew even with the leader into the backstretch. Prince Ferro (Maximillion Farm)sat a length behind the leaders with the rest of the field another length back. Into the backstretch, Polymath re-established his lead, pulling ahead of Fifty Lucky by 1/2 length while Prince Ferro made an early move on the outside. Angel Dust separated himself from the trailers, slipping along the rail in front of Argentinian (Nakamura Stables) and Shamo.
Midway on the stretch, Prince Ferro made a big move to draw alongside Polymath, but once again Polymath would not yield. Fifty Lucky held the rail third with Angel Dust still two lengths out of it.
Into the turn for home, Prince Ferro finally got past Ploymath. Shamo and Argentinian swung wide for their run. Angel Dust looked for running room, following Prince Ferro up the middle of the track.
The field entered the stretch with just 1 1/2 length separating Prince Ferro in first and Argentinian in last. It was anybody’s race. Angel Dust took the lead with a furlong to run. Shamo went with him and the two battled it out down the stretch. At the wire it was Angel Dust by a head in a thriller.
It was only the fifth start for Arindel’s gelding. By Falling Angel out of Immortality (Grandeur) Angel Dust was bred in CA by Fractious and purchased at auction as an unraced two-year-old for $19.000. This victory brings his career earnings to $167.360. Congratulations to Arindel and Angel Dust!
