August 5, 2022
Gnome Guitar (Wood Duck Stables) went into the gate at 6-1 and came out at the back of the pack. He stayed there for the first half of the race but proved to be the best of eight by the time they hit the wire.
Bo Buys An Island (Woogaloo) came away fastest, but Black Cloud (Angelos Stable) caught him quickly and the two were stride for stride onto the main track. Golden Authority (Asgar) sat two lengths back in third with White Sunshine (Smokey Stover) and Dream Rummer (La Canada Racehorses) just behind him. Harry Toddler (Winning Link Stables) ran a length behind them, and Gnome Guitar had one horse beaten with Bo Knows (Mb Stables) last. Midway on the backstretch, Bo Buys An Island reestablished his lead, but nothing else changed with the rest of the field.
Into the turn from home, Gnome Guitar started his run while Black Cloud once again challenged Bo Buys An Island on the lead.
Gnome Guitar swung four wide into the stretch. White Sunshine slipped along the rail to challenge the leaders. With a sixteenth of a mile to run, six horses stretched across the track. Only Harry Toddler and Bo Knows were uninvolved. Gnome Guitar stuck a head in front from the inside while White Sunshine did the same on the inside and the race to the finish was on.
At the wire it was Gnome Guitar a length ahead of White Sunshine who took second by a nostril over Dream Rummer in a thriller.
It was the fourth win in nine starts for Gnome Guitar. An allowance winner earlier in his career, the Wood Duck Stables gelding has been brilliant since being purchased for $40.000 and gelded in May. This win brings Gnome Guitar’s career earnings to $152.280. Congratulations to Wood Duck Stables and Gnome Guitar!
