The Adirondack – Grade 3 – $200.000
SAR – 6 1/2 Furlongs – Dirt
For Fillies Two Years Old
August 7, 2022
Rock Creek’s juvenile filly entered the Adirondack with a maiden special weight win and exited a graded stakes winner. Cold Storage stayed within two lengths of the leader the whole way and took got a neck in front of the bunched up field for the big win.
Tokyo Story (Smokey Stover), Spoken (Fractious), Phantom Romance (Fractious), and Gumption (Alydar Stables) stretched across the track to lead the way in the early going. Cold Storage (Rock Creek) and Ava Adore (South Shore Stables) sat two lengths back with the next flight of Electric Mischief (Arkansas Elite), Forlorn Hope (TwinTowersRacing) and Butter That Biscuit (Arkansas Elite) another two lengths behind them and Juicy Fruits (D J C Racing Stables) and Indien Rouge (Mb Stables) taking up the rear.
Tokyo Story and Spoken battled it out on the lead down the backstretch with Phantom Romance and Gumption stalking. Ava Adore gave chase while Cold Storage bided her time in sixth.
Around the turn for home nothing much changed on the lead. Butter That Bread and Juicy Fruits started to move from the back of the pack. The eventual winner, Cold Storage, still clung to the rail in sixth. Into the stretch, the leaders swung off the lead, leaving Cold Storage an opening which she took.
Gumption took the lead in mid-stretch. Tokyo Story hung in for second and Cold Storage moved up the inside into third. Cold Storage collared the leader in the shadow of the wire and stuck his neck out to win by that margin.
It was the second win in three starts for the daughter of Sacred Dancer and Onsite (Rumble). The victory brings her winnings to $132.000. Congratulations to Rock Creek and Cold Storage!
