Sorrento Stakes – Grade 2 – $200.000
Six Furlongs – Dirt – DMR
For Fillies Two Years Old
This may be one of the most exciting races this weekend. Twelve two-year-old fillies are vying for their first graded win. Spun Around could be tough, with three in-the-money performances at stakes level, including a second in the Schuylerville (G3). But Apache Farm who dead heated with her for second that day is also a strong contender, with one of the fastest six furlong works by any filly this year. Well, except Count The Souls who turned in the second fastest. The only question mark for her is experience. Temperature won the My Dear. Ignore Tucker won the Debutante. Chopsticks won the Tah Dah. Your Demise won back-to-back state-bred stakes. It’s a field jam packed with talent and it’s going to be exciting.
Here’s the field:
#1 Temperature
Owner: Aer Stables
Perfect in two starts, including a stakes win in the My Dear in July. Keeping an eye on this one. She looks like something special. Working very well at DMR and looks ready to run.
#2 Rebel Command
Owner: London Racing
Broke her maiden at GG last out and looked impressive doing it. Big step up, but she just might be up to the task.
#3 Apache Farm
Owner: El Primero Rodeo
Second by just a quarter length last out in the Schuylerville (G3). Should have a say in the outcome and a win wouldn’t be a surprise.
#4 Twilight Time
Owner: Fractious
Another one coming in off a maiden win, a big one at SAR. Five furlong works are impressive. Can’t count her out either.
#5 Count The Souls
Owner: Chili King Stables
Broke her maiden last out at LS. She owns the second fastest six furlong work by any two-year-old filly this year. Experience may work against her, but if she can transfer that speed to race day, she might be there at the wire.
#6 Ignore Tucker
Owner: La Canada Racehorses
Back-to-back wins at CD, including the Debutante in early July. Ready and able to meet this field and could come away with a win.
#7 Devils Bride
Owner: Fractious
Coming in off a maiden special weight win at LS last start. Another one that needs a big performance to win here.
#8 Spun Around
Owner: Mb Stables
Dead heated with Apache Farm for second in the Schuylerville (G3). Most experienced in the field when it comes to stakes competition with three starts and three in-the-money finishes. Yet to win at that level though, but this might be her turn in the winner’s circle.
#9 Chopsticks
Owner: Nj Vets
Won the Tah Dah last start. Another serious contender for part of the purse.
#10 Commendation
Owner: Fractious
Another one coming in off a maiden win, this one in state-bred company. Remains to be seen if she can compete in this field.
#11 Your Demise
Owner: Luz International
Back-to-back stakes wins in state-bred company. In fact, this filly is perfect, winning all three of her starts. Would be hard to bet against her, but the competition is tough in this one.
#12 Breaking The Girl
Owner: South Shore Stables
Second in the Tah Dah after breaking her maiden at SA in her second start. Talented filly but will have to bring her A game against these.
Picks: I can’t pick among these. I just want to watch this one!
