What a great group of eleven sophomore fillies set to go the classic mile and a quarter in The Alabama (GI), the third leg of the filly TT, and a case could be made for anyone in this race. Karloffs Monster came back to run with the fillies after competing with the boys on the TC Trail, and she made that return a winning one, taking the CCA Oaks (GI) and I’ll give her the slight nod today, as well. She struggled in the KY Oaks (GI) and the BEL (GI) but added medication last out and they may have found something there. Feliz Cumpleanos closed well to be second in that CCA Oaks (GI) race, and I would not be surprised to see her flip the script and get the win today. She has three consecutive runner-up efforts and sure does seem to be sitting on a win… is this the spot?
It’s a great group, so grab a wobble-pop and let’s head down to the rail to watch what is sure to be a huge race.
Here’s the Field –
Broke maiden two race back, then was fourth in both an Alw race at PIM and the Selene (GIII) at WO. She really doesn’t run a bad race, so maybe she’s around for part of this, and she should be a price, if you are inclined to get in line to place a wager. I think the barn would be happy with any check.
Another with only a maiden win but she has a bad case of the seconditus and there’s nothing wrong with that. After changing hands for just $25.000, she was the runner-up in an ALw race at CD, then the same in the DEL Oaks (GIII) and again last out in the CCA Oaks (GI). I’m sure the barn would take that, or maybe she finds just that little extra and nails down a big big win.
The big barn has a nice won here, showing a second in the GP Oaks (GII) and won the Summer Oaks (GII) at SA before a fourth in the CCA Oaks (GI) in her most recent. I think she’s better than that last-out fourth and look for a big run today.
Was on the TC trail facing the boys with mixed results, but added medication and won in her return vs. the ladies, taking the CCA Oaks (GI) in game fashion. There is no reason to think she won’t be in the middle of this one, as well, and I would not leave her off of your tickets.
Second part of the big stables 3-horse entry, and this one was acquired two races back for $500.000. She was third in the Acorn (GI) but bounced a bit last out, tiring to be sixth in the CCA Oaks (GI) as the 3/1 post-time favorite. She’s a GI winner, so make sure you keep an eye on her in this one, as well.
Does she ever run a bad race? Certainly doesn’t seem like it… She won the Honeybea (GIII) and the KY Oaks (GI) to put some serious cash in the bank, but she’s also been close in a number of other graded races this season. Sharp barn, sharp horse… watch her.
The third of three from the big barn and her only bad race was in the KY Oaks (GI) where she really didn’t like the cooking in Louisville. Nice bounce back to be the runner-up in the IND Oaks (GIII) last out, and looks to add to her resume’ in this one.
Another consistent type that seems to be around when they hand out checks. She was second in the Eight Belles (GII) and just missed last out facing high-end Alw horses at SAR. This is a tough bunch, so she’s going to need her best, but she has a puncher’s chance.
Three wins this season and none bigger than that last out victory in the DEL Oaks (GIII). She loves to sit right behind the speed and pounce, and with a bit of traffic in this one, that could be a big help. She seems to be running her best right now, and may come with some odds.
Two wins this season including a nice victory in the Bourbonette at TP. She was close in the KY Oaks (GI), Summer Oaks (GII) and DEL Oaks (GIII) and needs just a bit more to pull in a big win. She’s another that certainly deserves a big look.
She had a couple of bad races in the KY Oaks (GI) and Acorn (GI), but was closing fast to be third only a length back in the IA Oaks (GIII), last out. She’s going to need her best today, and if so, she could be an upset type.
