Jones Stakes – Grade 3 – $300.000
1 1/16 Mile – Dirt – PRX
For Three Year Olds
August 23, 2022
After changing hands for $175.000 in May, Crypto repaid his new connections with two big wins, this one in the Jones Stakes. Maximillion Farm’s gelding stalked the pace in the mile and a sixteenth contest and pulled away in the stretch to win by a length.
Pennine Way (Hippyheart) and Cheveley Park (Mo Mentum Farm) took the lead out of the gate with Crypto just a quarter length behind them. Good Guy (Arindel) and Party Wagon (Martyparty) completed the field.
The three on the lead ran stride for stride until they reached the backstretch when Pennine Way took the lead by a quarter length over Cheveley Park with Crypto on the outside within a length of the leader.
They straightened out on the backstretch and Pennine Way extended his length a bit. Crypto pulled even with Cheveley Park for second. Crypto got past him as the field approached the far turn.
Pennine Way managed to hold off Crypto around the turn, while Good Guy started his run from the back of the pack.
Pennine Way and Crypto battled down the stretch, opening up on the rest of the field. With less than a furlong to run, Crypto took the lead and hit the wire half a length in front of Pennine Way. Party Wagon came from last to take third.
It was the fourth win in nine starts for Crypto. By Tax Reform out of Deep Blue Ocean by Scott The Great, Crypto extended his career earnings to $489.960. Congratulations Maxmillion Farm and Crypto!
