Prince Lucky Stakes – $200.000
PRX – For Two Year Olds Foaled in PA
6 1/2 Furlongs – Dirt
September 24, 2022
It was a one-two punch for Maletto. First his filly, Chrystal Cave, won the Imply, and then his colt, Justice Of The Peace, followed it up with a victory in the Prince Lucky. But they did it in very different styles. Where Chrystal Cave won wire-to-wire, Justice Of the Peace came from the clouds to get the win.
Justice Of The Peace left the gate slowly, and by the time the field left the chute for the main track, he was dead last. Up front, Double Dex (Angelos Stable) took the early lead with Ex Madness (Angelos Stable) and Power Cord (Power Racing) close on his heels. Power Struggle (Mb Stables) ran behind them two lengths ahead of Justice Of The Peace.
Nothing much changed down the backstretch except that Justice Of The Peace lost contact with the field, trailing by more than six lengths as they neared the turn for home.
At the head of the stretch, Power Struggle found room on this inside and took the lead while Justice Of The Peace quickly whittled away at the lead. Justice Of The Peace swung five wide, gobbling up ground. In less than a quarter mile, Justice Of The Peace went from last to first and hit the wire half a length ahead of Power Struggle.
It was the third win in five starts for Justice Of The Peace. Bred in PA by Maletto, he is by Condottieri out of Always Charley (Always Dreaming). The win brings his earnings to $200.400. Congratulations to Maletto and Justice Of The Peace!
