La Terrifiant Looks to Warm Up for Her Fifth BC Appearance in Taylor Stakes

Taylor Stakes – Grade I

WO Race #6 1 1/4m Turf Graded Stake
Purse $750.000 For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward.

1 Love Of The People Mb Stables Gutierrez R

An interesting entry as a three year old against one of the best female routers in the game. She was bought for $100 after a maiden win at the free track and was to prove an inspired purchase as she quickly moved from pay overnight races to stakes races recording her first black type win in the OB Distaff. She suffered from the slow start pandemic in the BEL Oaks so ran an awful race there but bounced back in the ONT Colleen for a game win which she has since backed up in the Mabee Stakes. The slow start virus really makes her form lines look a bit stupid but we see it week in and week out in the form lines of these good horses so we have come to write off those races as just part of the game as it is now. So taking out that race we have a horse that has won her last three moving from ungraded stakes to grade two and gets in here with a weight break and a great draw. That still may not be good enough to break La Terrifiants heart but it certainly puts her right in with a good chance.

2 Stellar Agent Night Rider Stables Leparoux J R

Another that has moved through the grades nicely she had a successful season sprinting last year but has been stepped up into routes this year with good results. An impressive win the the Gallorette back in May it is hard to weigh up how much that was an improvement because her next and last two races have both been on an off track which of course in highly unreliable form. Having said that she ran really well in both the Dance Smartly and The Canadian, placing both times and finishing well so if she was unsuited by the track both those times she may have improved a bit more than her form suggests. This is a tough field but she is a tough filly and she certainly has a shot at taking this race.

3 Mon Dieu Mo Mentum Farm Moran D

Narrowly beaten by Love Of The People in the ONT Colleen she went on to gamely make all and win the Canadian last time just under a length in front of Stellar Agent. On strict form lines that puts Love Of The People on top but we all know HRP form isn’t as easy as that as it is drastically affected by going and starts. This filly certainly looks just a little better on an off track so that may be against her of the ran stays away but there is very little between her and two other highly rated runners so she must go into the mix as a chance to win.

4 La Terrifiant Smokey Stover Loveberry J

Is there anything more i can say about this amazing seven year old who has looked done and finished with racing on one or two occasions but has never stopped bouncing back to the top of the pile. Her form is outstanding but when you see her BC record it is just as impressive. The winner of the 2017 BC Juvenile fillies on dirt she then finished third in the BC Distaff in 2018, won the BC Fillies and mares turf in 2019, was third in that same race in 2020 and then fourth against the boys in the BC Mile last year. She has been at the top of her age group for no less than five years and has not slowed down this year taking out The grade One Diana and most recently the Flower Bowl. I think if this race were over a mile she may be vulnerable but over the ten furlongs and can’t see the others having her heart in the finish.

5 Rose Petals Mb Stables Wilson E J

Another runner from Mb Stables she has shown plenty of promise but has been a little flat since her strong third in the grade one Just A Game. Normally a closer she has looked like this trip would suit and rarely runs a bad race she just has lacked the X Factor recently and she will have to step up her game a little to win this.

6 Breakfast In America Nakamura Stables Eramia R E

So just a look at her form makes you scratch your head a little as to why she is here but i rather think the trainer may have a little tactic up their sleeve that may just put a cat among the pigeons. It is impossible to pick her on anything she has done on the track but her work times, especially the most recent one are in the ball park and with the wide gate speed push and the weight allowance i wonder whether the trainer will gun her out and try and snatch this race. Whatever the trainer does they haven’t put her in to run last so watch this space.

SUMMARY

The easy choice here is of course La Terrifiant who should use this as a stepping stone to her fifth BC appearance. Could anything beat her? Well this is HRP so anything could if her legs go all spinny in the gate but it is hard to see it happening. Love Of The People looks just best of the rest but you could make a case for any of them should things go their way.
