AQU Race #8 $200.000
NY-Bred Fillies 2YOs 119 Lbs (plus penalties) 1-Mile
Course Record-1:33.67 (Omni-2004)
Stakes Record-1:35.31 (Geek Watch-2014)
#1 Not Gotta Fox (Night Rider Stables/J. Lezcano 119): She broke her maiden at second-asking before being plucked in the auction for $8.720. She’s been offered for a tag in her last three starts, but she’s shown enough to get the start here. Still looking for her second win, but she’s drawn well here.
#2 Jersey Childe (Asgar/J,R, Velazquez 119): Lass went 0-3 on the dirt before breaking her maiden in a retsricted MSW at SAR on the lawn. Both tries against winners were also on the lawn, so this will be her fist crack at winners on the main track. Looks to have plenty of early foot and the work time from her last drill says this trip is within her scope.
#3 Truth O Java (Nakamura Stables/E. Maldonado 119): EMD debut winner was a non-factor in a WO stake before running 2nd in a FP allowance. Last-out was an ok effort and she should have a better understanding of what it will take to conquer this one-mile distance. Worktab says we may see turf in her future, but she’s not outclassed here.
#4 Tall Southern Lady (Oquinn Farm/M. Franco 121): A winner of a $125.000 stake, she gets assigned an extra two pounds here. She showed some guts to get up in that effort after romping on the lawn at SAR in the maiden-breaker. Not sure what to make of the jockey switch, but she looks to be a very logical contender.
#5 Breathe In Brooklyn (Smokey Stover/D. Davis 119): Debuted a winner at TAM going 2f back in April, but we haven’t seen her since. Worktab says she shouldn’t have a problem with the trip. Still, would like to see her more in the afternoons to have a better gauge on her ability. Have to think the barn had plenty of options to send here, so give her extra credit for getting the assignment.
#6 Gaga (D J C Racing Stables/P. Lopez 119): Filly won at second-asking and has been getting closer against stakes’ company in three races since. Seems like a filly that likes to watch things unfold before uncorking her rally. She’ll have to get the right setup to show her best, but think she’ll be running well late/
#7 Bucephalus (Threshold/A. Cedillo 119): Filly comes east after three efforts out west. Broke her maiden in that last effort at RUI but the time wasn’t all that great. Like the 6, she prefers to do her running late and she’ll need to time it right in her first assignment against winners.
#8 Childe Girl (Mb Stables/G.G. Richards 119): She took consecutive starts after just missing on debut, but she’s found open stakes’ company a bit too tough. Takes a logical “drop” into the state-bred ranks and she has enough speed to control things out front. Could be a threat on the front end if they allow her to get comfortable.
#9 Atomic Woman (Arindel/L. Saez 119): Took four cracks to break her maiden, but she broke it in the most profitable spot. Followed-up that win with an ok 4th at this level back in August and should be fresh for this. She’s shown some versatility, but don’t think she’ll be too far away from the front end here and should have every chance when the money is on the line.
#10 One Liner (Mb Stables/J.J. Castellano 121): Filly likes getting her picture taken that’s for sure. Never been off the board in five races and all five have seen her finish in photos with other horses for top honors. The FL score will cost her two pounds here, but that shouldn’t push anyone in a different direction.
#11 Majestic Chai (TwinTowersRacing/E. Jaramillo 119): Filly gets the widest gate, but that shouldn’t affect her too much as she’ll probably look to rally late anyway. Wish she was more competitive in the LAD allowance on a dry strip, but there’s nothing wrong with the way she’s trained up to this.
Final Analysis: 10-5-8 is how we’ll play it, but the 10 appears to be a stand out in the 16th running of The Maid of the Mist. Good luck everyone!
