#1 Bad Bad Man (Night Rider Stables/R. Eikleberry 120): Gelding went 2-2 during the summer before being auctioned off in August. Only cost $7.000 to nab this one and you have to like that his last two efforts prior to the sale demonstrated his versatility. Faces tougher here but draws the coveted rail.
#2 Seek N Destroy (South Sjore Stables/T. Kennedy 120): Won TUP debut before just missing at N1X level. Tried state-bred $125.000 foes last time and it didn’t go well. Has been freshened since but he’ll need to show marked improvement if he’s to best this group.
#3 Rednexico (Mojica Racing/J.P. Vargas 120): Earned black-type last time with a good 3rd versus LA-bred foes. That effort showed progression from the maiden-breaker in his first start for this outfit. Runner looks to be quick enough to sit right off the speed and that trip is a profitable one.
#4 Red Wine (Hippyheart/T.J. Hebert 120): Tokk GG debut before going down to DMR and besting winners to start his career 2-2. Hard to glean anything from the G1 try in the slop and this seems to be a very logical spot. Last work was encouraging for a runner that has already seen better company.
#5 Silver Grail (Nakamura Stables/T. Thornton 120): Broke his maiden at GRP after suffering five consecutive defeatsto begin his career. May be a slow learner, but that 7-length score is impressive regardless of the competition he faced. Water’s deeper here, but it’s possible he has this racing thing figured out.
#6 Jermaine (D J C Racing Stables/J. Dominguez 120): Tagged for $45.000 in the maiden-breaker, he may not have relished the slop in first start for this crew. Trainer is showing quite a bit of faith in his charge to show up here, but, while he’s always been a good worker, this is a tough spot for a route debut.
#7 First Order (Luz International/J. Stokes 120): He’s started his career at the free tracks as he just missed on debut before getting the job done last time at MNR. He has shown speed in both of his outings and the fact that he’s won at this trip is a positive. Makes quite the leap for his first crack at winners and a purse.
#8 Luna Beach (Asgar/V. Del-Cid 120): This one is another that took a few swings at breaking the maiden before finding success at ALB. Tried G1 foes off of that big win, but couldn’t make an impact. This will be his third try at black-type as he tried NM-bred stakes foes prior to breaking the maiden. He did pass some rivals at SA.
#9 Ferrobomber Laga (Lagastable/J.A. Guerrero 120): Late-April debut came at CD and he didn’t embarass himself with his performance. Beat MNR MSW foes by four in his second go and took two more purseless races at PEN between a two-length defeat at CD and a very good runner-up HST to earn some black-type. Draw doesn’t help his style, but there isn’t a ton of speed inside of him either.
#10 Zaro (Bomberracing/G. Melancon 122): Last-out PID stake’s victory will cost him two pounds and he gets stuck in the parking lot. Gelding has shown he can press the pace and make up ground with equal aplomb, but he’ll need to be on his very best game with the two strikes already against him.
Final Analysis: 4-6-8 is how they’ll cross the wire in the $100.000 Lafitte at DED. Good luck everyone!
