6 CD Clark (GI)
$750.000 3yo&Up 1 1/8m Dirt 3yo 122lbs Older 124lbs
There have been a number of memorable claims in the ’22 racing season, but the $18.000 that Aer Stables plunked down to nab Great Bonkers appears to be the best of them all. The ebony 4yo stalked the pace throughout the Clark (GI), but he is tough to keep out of the winner’s circle as he pressed pass to score by a length, winning his third graded stakes since the claim. Add in his win in the BC Mile (GI) and he has to be in the conversation when looking at HotY honors. Ags Cherokee drew in from the AE list and made a good closing effort work for a second place finish, a head in front of Killer Instinct in third and another length to Gran Z in fourth. The final running time was 1:47.60 for the mile and an eighth, over the main CD oval, marked as Fast.
Great Bonkers is a 4yo black gelded son of Good Authority – Bonkers, by Cherokee Sunset, and he was bred in NY by Smokey Stover. As mentioned, Aer Stables acquired him via the $18.000 hostile takeover, and he now shows ten wins from twenty-three lifetime starts, with earnings of $2,204.33, five of those wins and $2,028.14 of that coming this season. Congrats to the Connections!
