In November 2022 we implemented an adjustment (minor) to the SRF speed figures which went into effect on Nov 25th. We also adjusted the BC races (Nov 5) to reflect this adjustment. This adjustment was a minor one and phase 1 of a complete adjustment.
Over the course of the last two months, we had to evaluate the HRP class frame and the differences between them and Real-world racing. Player input was taken into account as many questioned and, in the process, at HRP. What we found was that HRP did not wholeheartedly translate into the real-world classification. It was found that some classes were somewhat out of line especially on the lower end of the scale. In response to this a new classification was developed for HRP racing to deal with this issue. In the new format it was necessary to go over each class and determine if it fit HRP racing. In response to this it was determined the HRP did not need all the classifications of RL racing. We found that some classes could be combined to reflect a truer base. This eliminated some classes and, in the process, moved the bottom level up on the scale. The middle scale was slightly adjusted, and the upper scale tweaked but not substantially. These adjustments have led to an even tighter variant that better reflects a horse’s capability and the HRP race engine. What may be the most noticeable change will likely be seen on the lower end of the scale though it won’t be drastic. The mid-level not as noticeable as the lower end. Some races you may see little change in a horse’s speed figure ability this will of course be determined by track conditions and horses and the variant itself.
The SRF figures are based on time and velocity and are adjusted accordingly by sprint and route. You see a length is not just a length determined by a 1/5th second. At each distance horses travel at different velocities. A length is adjusted as a horse covers a distance of ground in faster or slower times. There is currently a time/velocity adjustment built into the figures and is why you may see a horse that HRP says finishes 5 lengths behind the winner, but his SRF speed rating may show him as much 7 or 8pts behind the leader. In phase 3 the last phase for adjustment we will implement a new velocity adjustment for each individual distance. This may take a little longer to implement as it must be programmed into the race structure by HRP.
The Phase 2 adjustment is now in effect. This adjustment was implemented and backlogged to the Jan10th races. Everything after Jan 10th reflects the new speed figure adjustments. Over the course of the next two or three months I will be reevaluating and will make any tweaks if deemed necessary to these adjustments.
Before implementing new velocity adjustments, I will explain how they are determined in my next article.
