GP Race #10 $200.000
F&M 4+ 124 Lbs (plus penalties) 7 Furlongs
Course Record-1:20.66 (Omni-2005)
Stakes Record-1:21.41 (Avery Island-2012)
#1 Tenrikyo (Smokey Stover/El. Gonzalez): Oldest gal at this dance showed no signs of slowing down last year with three wins and nine ITM finishes from ten starts. Took two G1s and a G3 in ’22, and she has to be given respect when she shows up.
#2 Starship Twister (TwinTowersRacing/A. Beschizza): 6yo mare cashed five checks last year, but only one of those came with a picture. Tried turf/dirt, but she didn’t sprint. This will be her first try at 7-panels since August of ’21.
#3 Juilliard (Mo Mentum Farm/F. Geroux): Won a $100.000 stake and an allowance last year from nine starts. She’s had plenty of route tries, but this is her game with five wins from 12 starts in sprint races. Showed plenty of tactical speed on the old engine.
#4 Spearmint Rhino (Arindel/S.X. Bridgmohan): 4yo lass won three of ten as a sophomore and was a BC participant. Has to overcome the scale as she faces some tough ladies here at equal weights. Came from everywhere on the old engine, so it would be wise to watch her trip closely.
#5 Theres No Doubt (Angelos Stable/A.R. Rodriguez): Filly did some good work from June-August. Cooled down in the fall, but she rebounded with a bang-up 2nd place effort in G1 at SA last month. Think she’ll stick to sprinting this season.
#6 Commanding Jane (Night Rider Stables/E.J. Zayas): 6yo mare only ran five times last year, but she had two wins, highlighted by the G3 seasonal finale. She should be relatively fresh after the light campaign, and she has the wheels to stay close early.
#7 Bella Chica (Mb Stables/M. Franco): Non-effort in the BC may have dulled her shine, but she was in really good form prior to November, and she caught an off track. Plenty of evidence to excuse that effort, and she’s shown she can win in different ways.
#8 Last Lady (Lindeman Prairie/Ru. Gonzalez): Ended her 4yo campaign on a high note and has come back working lights-out. Old engine may not have been her friend, and she should be more able to handle the level-weight scenario as a 5yo.
#9 Catori (D J C Racing Stables/J. Lezcano): Took G1 Acorn in June but couldn’t replicate that effort as she ended her campaign on a five-race skid. She seems to be an all-or-nothing sort; however, her “all” is good enough to win these types of races.
Final Analysis: 8-1-7 is how we see it shaking out in the G2 Inside Information. Good luck to all involved.
