Pennine Way Takes San Pascal

San Pasqual Stakes – Grade 2

SA – 1 1/8 Mile – Dirt

For Four Year Olds and Upward

Hippyheart’s homebred colt put together a very impressive string of races starting in March 2022 and ending in his 14th place finish in the Grade 1 Clark. Throw that race out. He redeemed himself and maybe started another impressive string with a victory in the San Pasqual. The four-year-old stalked the pace throughout and took the lead late in the race.

Complete order of finish:

1 Pennine Way (Hippyheart) Stalked the lead and took over late, then pulled away by a length.

2 Six Pillars (TwinTowersRacing) came from out of the clouds with a strong finish, but couldn’t get past Pennine Way and had to settle for second.

3 Dont You Dare Forget (Jerry Garcia Racing) Lead most of the way, then finished third.

4 Good Guy (Arindel) Stalked the pace from third most of the way, then finished fourth.

5 Crush Rush (LionKing Stables) Made a late run to finish fifth.

6 Ronaldo Chop (Night Rider Stables) Ran a steady mid-pack race.

7 Wrangler (High Voltage) Never a factor.

8 Set In Space (Nakamura Stables) Never a factor.

9 Puppet Master (Spankys Barn) Led briefly, but faded to finish last.

Pennine Way is by Charley Sweetback out of Fire N Doubt (Fire N Fury). Bred in CA by owner Hippyheart, Pennine Way has now won five of twelve starts. His career earnings stand at $420.400. Congratulations to Pennine Way and Hippyheart!
