9 GP The Sweetest Chant (GIII)
$175.000 3yoF 1 1/6m Turf 121lbs +penalties
oh, the fun never stops in SoFla… Hallandale is the spot as we look at the field for The Sweetest Chant (GIII), a mile and a sixteenth turf stakes for the sophomore ladies. Broadway Lady was second in the BC Juv F Turf (GI) back in Nov and that’s going to be enough to give her top billing with me in this one. She was closing fast over this course last out and I think she flips the script on them here. You always have to like Mb in this type of race, and I’d give Risky Maneuver a big look today. She’s been close in just about every race and has the most money in the bank… always a good thing.
Here’s The Field –
She’s put away a nice bankroll for the Big Barn, winning the Untappable at KD and just missing in the Surfer Girl (GIII). She also just missed last out facing Alw types at SA, so you know she can run, and you always have to fear this conditioner. Give her a big look.
Broke maiden at AQU last out in head-turning fashion, dusting a nice field by five in a very quick time. That was her only time on the board in six lifetime starts, but she certainly seemed to figure the racehorse thing out in a big way. Can she build off of that and keep it going?
Two wins from four starts, so she’s been able to get her picture taken at a 50% clip… both of those races were north of the border while facing ONT-bred types, and she’s failed in her other two starts, both open stakes races. She’s going to need to turn it around to get the job done with this group.
Two wins from three starts including a nice stakes win at SA, getting home by a nose in the CAC Oaks. Both of her wins came vs. Cal-bred types, but winning on both the grass and main track, she’s all racehorse and has to be given a big shot today. Don’t leave her off of your tickets.
She moved out of WV-bred races, where she had a win and two runner-up efforts, only to be a fast closing third in the Blue Norther at SA last out. She faces the winner of that race again today, but she was running her down in the late stages of that one and may love the added sixteenth.
Only a single win but don’t let that fool you… she just missed by a head in the Natalma (GI) at WO and was the runner up in the BC Juv Turf (GI). Although she was fourth in her first start of ’23, she was closing fast over this course in the Ginger Brew, and a more clear path may have put her in the winner’s circle that day. She’s nice.
Got the job done over this course in her fourth trip to the gate, taking down sprinting maidens for the win. She was back on short rest for that win, and does it again today… can she make magic?
Only one win from seven starts, but she broke maiden on the grass by eight lengths at PRX, and you just ignore a big win like that. It was on a soft turf course, so don’t be surprised if you see the barn doing a rain dance. She closed well here to be fourth in the
Bounced back after that dull seventh place finish in the BC Juv F Turf (GI) and won the Blue Norther at SA in her most recent trip to the gate. She’s been close in a number of other races, some of those stakes, so you know she has class and ability and that could spell win today.
Claimed from her most recent where she was second vs $25.000 claimers, and she’s never been worse than second in three starts. This horrible conditioner should be able to change that string today.
