For Fillies and Mares Four Years Old and Upward

February 18, 2023

You could make a case for any of the four fillies and mares in this field. Ferro Bus is probably the most questionable, having spent most of her career sprinting on turf, but she’s turned in some nice works on the dirt lately. At first glimpse, it looks like she picked a soft spot to try dirt and stakes company for the first time, but what this field lacks in quantity makes up for in quality. Neon Moon looks like the class of the field. She just turned in a string of second place finishes that included two graded stakes contests. Always competitive, always consistent, she has only finished off the board four times in sixteen starts. Toothless has been knocking at the door in stakes company. Once claimed for $1.250, she has more than proved her worth. Tell Milady turned in a dynamite mile work last month and she should benefit from the shorter distance. Like I said – short but tough field.

Here’s the field:

1 Toothless (Night Rider Stables) Seven-year-old mare with something left in the tank and should make a nice broodmare someday. Second in the $100.000 Interborough over this dirt track last out. Has been liking the view from the front in her last couple of starts, so look for her to be well-placed early. A win wouldn’t be a surprise.

2 Ferro Bus (Gdp Inc) This mare found a short field to make her stakes debut and her dirt debut. Lightly raced five-year-old. Turned in some nice dirt works. Remains to be seen if that can translate to the track.

3 Tell Milady (Nakamura Stables) Graded stakes placed allowance winner coming in off a win at SA in allowance company. Another one working very well. Fourth fastest mile work at SA on January 24th. Very consistent and a tough contender.

4 Neon Moon (Smokey Stover) Put together a string of second place stakes performances after a win in allowance company back in September. This spot should suit her better. May also benefit from the shorter distance. I like everything about this four-year-old filly, but she’s still got to get to the wire first.
