D J C Racing Stables‘ Verrazano looked like traffic would be his biggest foe today… well, he beat that too!  The three-year-old gelding found room into the lane, blew past the leaders and won The Gander by a length in a final time of 1:35.13 for the flat mile stakes.  The main track at AQU was listed as Fast.  Post time favorite Prince George had every chance in the world, being forwardly placed throughout, but just couldn’t go with the winner late and settled for the second money.  It was another half-length to Active And Ambitious, that one taking the lead into the far turn and continued to lead to mid-stretch but shortened a bit late for the third spot.  Stake The Claim closed down the center of the track from well back to be fourth.  Nine lengths covered the field.
