3YOs 121 Lbs 61/2 Furlongs (Turf)
#1 Apache Ascent (High Voltage/E. Maldonado): Recently purchased for $40.000, he’ll make his barn debut here. Won at first asking before finishing fifth in juvenile finale. Catches as BC-winner at level weight, but he has talent and the rail.
#2 Drinkin Creepin (Mb Stables/Mario Gutierrez): Juvie Turf Sprint winner took an allowance in seasonal bow last month. Gets in at level weight here and has been working some serious times in the a.m. Strictly the one to beat.
#3 Chaos Dreidel (Riggins Racing/U. Rispoli): Won on debut at GG in January before changing hands for $95.000 a couple weeks ago. Rallied from the back in his debut and capable trainer knows a good one when he sees it.
#4 So Slick (Asgar/R.A. Vazquez): Two-time winner has been off since dirt foray back in October. The two times he faced stakes’ company he was beaten four lengths in each. Tough spot for a comeback but he has speed.
#5 Alaric The Goth (SamIam/F. Prat): Finished ’22 with back-to-back wins so he enters this confident and fresh. Been working well at DMR, and this engine may suit his style if he’s cranked-up.
#6 Sick House (Spankys Barn/D. Van Dyke): Just missed going a mile here last month when he set a strong pace on the front end. Been working well and keeps the jock around for this one. Intriguing on the cut back.
#7 Pluck Around Boy (Gdp Inc/L. Detorri): Winner of two straight, and three of four on the lawn. Gets extra credit for the GP score, as that one came on this iteration of the race engine. Has speed but he’s also shown a late turn of foot as well.
#8 Sarah Parker In Snow (Rock Creek/A. Cedillo): Two wins at PRX came in impressive times, and he did it in different ways. Got a strong mile work last time and he should be fit for this. Like the outside draw for versatile sort.
Final Analysis: 2-7-8 is how we’ll play them in a fairly strong renewal of the Baffle Stakes. Good luck to everyone involved.
