La Roo broke alertly and settled into third place behind Empire Sunset and Be Patient in the early going. She laid about two lengths off the lead into the backstretch, not bothered by a challenge from Sparks, patiently waiting for the right moment to move. That moment came at the head of the stretch when she quickly took the lead and fended off a late charge from Shining At Knight.
Our Athletes’ homebred had failed to hit the board in graded company twice before, but she stepped up in a big way when it mattered most, capturing 50 KY Oaks points in the process. She is now third on the KY Oaks qualifying list. Other points went to Shining At Knight who came away with 20. Fifteen points went to Sparks. [Rename 1644] nabbed 10 and Be Patient earned 5.
La Roo is by Our Dark Knight out of Roo (The Rook). The win was her third in eight starts for $385.050 in earnings. Congratulations to La Roo and Our Athletes!
