Beholder Mile Looks Easy in Retrospect

Beholder Mile – Grade I
SA Race #6 1m Dirt Stake
Purse $500.000 For Fillies And Mares Four Years Old And Upward.

1st Retrospect Mb Stables Loveberry J

Well apparently, everything is running on horse lead these days but whether they are instructed or allowed to run the results remain the same with Mb Stables once again featuring in the winner’s circle for the big races of the day. I must admit out of the two stable runners I didn’t expect it to be this one that came out on top, but I have said it before this race engine seems to like genuine consistent types and this one is certainly that. After scraping a nose victory in a State bred stakes last time though, I did feel that she wouldn’t find a grade one, but today she upped her game and used all her best qualities to gain a head victory. Was it the off track? her liking for whatever we are led to believe she was instructed to do? or just one of those races where heart won the day? Whatever the reason this consistent mare deserved her day in the sun and with improved recent works I wonder whether she will be back to do some more damage in these top races.

2nd Theres No Doubt Angelos Stable Rodriguez A R

The off track and the mile may just have found this one’s stamina limits as she looked home and hosed beyond halfway but was running n quicksand in the last furlong. She kept on really bravely for second and continues her impressive record without any dents in her reputation.

3rd Drink Me Pretty Mb Stables Talamo J

The more accomplished of the two stable runners she got back a bit too far from the wide draw and couldn’t make up the ground on this race engine which seems to slow down the closing rates of those coming from off the pace.

4th Laffy Crack Night Rider Stables Ortiz J L

With the three wide gates filling in the first four home it was clear someone had set an instruction that wasn’t horse lead because the pace was very solid for an off track allowing those with clearer air to get into the race. This one came from a long way back to take fourth which may be a little disappointing with her good off-track record, but she is prone to make the odd bad start and that’s what beat her today.
