AQU Race #2 6f Dirt Stake
Purse $100.000 For Three Year Olds Foaled In NY.
1 Bora Sin Arindel Davis D 122 —
The interest in these State breds has certainly been improving and thus we have a competitive field here that has a fair bit of quality in it. This one is two from three and looks a real nice sprinting type. He proved his versatility by winning on dry and wet ground and has the right balance of speed and stamina to make his mark in this grade from this gate.
2 American Star Smokey Stover Franco M 122 —
An unbeaten three-year-old, he too has proved some versatility winning over a mile and sixteenth on debut and then having the pace to win over this trip last time. He gets another great draw today and should again be able to lay up early on, and it is hard not to give him a winning chance.
3 Long Capo Asgar Gomez Os 122 —
Plenty of black type form for this one he managed a third in the Jerome on seasonal debut but reverts back to sprinting today after a failure in the Gander last time. It is hard to weigh him up as he has raced in some good races but as yet hasn’t looked like winning one. A solid type that is well drawn and has a touch of class but may find one too good for him today.
4 Drop Off Riggins Racing Houghton T D 122 —
This one contested three grade ones in row as a two-year-old including the BC Juvenile but has come back to sprinting after he failed to get anywhere near them in those big races. Ran well to be second in an allowance last time but will need a bit of Riggins magic to get him home in front today.
5 If Only You Believe La Canada Racehorses Gomez J A 122 —
His works have been far better than his form, but he has run with some promise and may have benefited from a confidence boosting win at TUP last time. A lot may depend on the type of run he gets as he seems a fickle sort who just may need things to go his way.
6 Hot Shark Arindel Lezcano J 122 —
The trainer holds a strong hand here and has this consistent sprinter to further their claims on this race, A close second in the NY Breeders Futurity last year he showed he has trained on with a typically gutsy win in a decent Allowance over this course and distance last time and that effort puts him among the winning chances.
7 James Night Rider Stables McCarthy T 122 —
Bought after his second win at the free track we cannot really judge him on form, but his works have been solid and this stable can get the most out of these horses. Wouldn’t be my first choice, but I am wary of improvement.
8 Starry Wonder Smokey Stover Carmouche K 122 —
The second stable runner and another nice sort, he made all for a strong maiden win last time over this course and distance and may be the speed influence in this race with the aid of the wide gate speed push. The only thing that worries me is that the win came on an off track and that form can sometimes be unreliable.
9 Prince George Mb Stables Worrie A S 122 —
Two good efforts this year have resulted in two seconds in the Gander and the Allison Derby, and those efforts coupled with the fact the champion trainer spent $100.000 to buy him will probably make him favorite despite the wide draw. He certainly has a good chance, but I don’t see enough for him to overcome the draw.
SUMMARY
If Only You Believe may be running out of chances to believe in him, but I will give him one more chance here to beat American Star.
