10 SA Royal Heroine Stakes (GII)
$200.000 4yo&Up F&M 1m Turf 123lbs +penalties
Out to SoCal and SA for the Royal Heroine Stakes, a mile turf stakes for the older females, and we get a very solid group of six. I’m taking Always Condottieri as the top pick off of her current form where she won the Suwannee River (GIII) to close out ’22, the Pegasus Turf F&M (GIII) to kick-off ’23, and was third in the Fox (GIII), although she was close in that one. Another that deserves a big look is My Girl Makita, as this class mare is always in the middle of every race. She has class, wins… she’s the real deal, no doubt about it.
Here’s The Field –

Omnibus | High Voltage | Rispoli U | 123 | 4/1 |
Hard knocking mare that is always around when they hand out checks. She just missed in the Megahertz (GIII) and was fourth in the Buena Vista (GII), both over this track… but, she tired in both of those, and she is known to back-up late. Can she keep it going to the wire today?

Always Condottieri | Maletto | Vazquez R A | 123 | 3/1 |
She’s always in the picture and certainly knows how to get the job done, winning her ’23 debut in the Pegasus FM Turf (GIII), then ran a solid third in the Fox (GIII), both in SoFla. She’s a horse that needs to be on your tickets, and she’s my choice here.

Mon Dieu | Mo Mentum Farm | Maldonado E | 123 | 7/2 |
Won the La Prevoyante Hcp (GIII) to kick off her season, then just missed in a runner-up effort in the Hillsborough (GII) at TAM. She certainly knows how to get her picture taken, must be looked at in this one and I wouldn’t skip over her when you head to the window.

My Girl Makita | Smokey Stover | Gutierrez Mario | 123 | 4/1 |
You don’t put nearly $2,000.000 in the bank unless you are a bad-ass mare, and she is. Won (DH) on the down-hill course in the Wishing Well to get this year kicked-off in her typical fashion, but she can win at just about any distance. Give her a big chance in this one, as well.
|
High Return | Maxmillion Farm | Bocachica A | 123 | 7/1 |
Changed hands and they went right to the stakes level with her, and she was a very game third place finish in the Wishing Well, on the down-hill course. That was a dead-heat for the win, so she was right there in that one and I’d expect her to improve in her second start for the barn.

Shes One Of A Kind | Mo Mentum Farm | Gonzalez Ru | 123 | 9/2 |
Beat OptAlw types then was third (DH) in the Santa Anna (GIII), both of those on the lawn here at SA. She won the Yellow Ribbon Hcp (GII) last season, so she’s always a threat and must be watched because her best can beat just about any field.
