The Bay Shore – Grade III
AQU Race #2 7f Dirt Graded Stake
Purse $200.000 For Three Year Olds.
1 Naval Commander Nakamura Stables Worrie A S 122 —
Looked like gelding had worked its magic as this homebred won two in a row after the operation. Its run came to an end over a mile and seventy yards when the trip proved too far last time so this switch back to sprinting should suit. His works times are pretty swift, but he has yet to prove himself in this grade and today he faces a big step up in grade. Capable from this gate but not the best on paper.
2 Risen Star Spankys Barn Carmouche K 122 —
This race is often a steppingstone for failed KYD hopes who find a mile plus too testing and this is one of those who was taken out of the TC run after failing to stay in the Lewis Stakes. On his third in the LA Futurity, he must rate a big chance and he gets the perfect draw to get up on the speed here over a trip that will suit him down to the ground.
3 Art Vandelay Jokerjoes Davis D 122 —
Won three in a row as a juvenile and was sold for $175.000 on the strength of that however, he has struggled to find that form in his three runs since. Unsuited by the mud last time he was good in an SA Optional Claimer the race before when a closing second, and I feel that he may turn out to be a decent sprinter if he can regain his mojo.
4 Semi Auto Threshold Lezcano J 122 —
Ran pretty well over this trip when second in the San Vicente at the start of the year but was a little disappointing when stretched out in the TUP Derby when weakening into third. This trip is certainly his best and he has experience at this grade, but his works have been a little off recently and he needs to find his racecourse form to win this.
5 Time For A Beer Riggins Racing Ortiz I Jr 122 —
Closing hard in his last three starts this one has looked more like a router than a sprinter but of course the click of a button can turn these horses into different animals at HRP, so I wouldn’t worry about this shorter trip too much. His works are better than his form although he won a big-ticket maiden at GP pretty impressively in February and he clearly has ability underneath a somewhat difficult temperament.
6 Cioppino TwinTowersRacing Talamo J 122 —
Behind Semi Auto in the San Vincente he is one that has set the gallops alight but finds it hard to reproduce that on the track. With just one free track maiden in the win column, it seems crazy to read that when he is worked 1.10 and 2 and 1.36 and 2. Clearly there is plenty of ability there it is just down to getting him to put that into his races.
7 Shoo Fly Lazy Eye Bocachica A 122 —
The BC Champion and dual grade one winner would’ve been the long odds-on favorite for this on last year’s form but has struggled this year. His form seems to have suffered as the draw monster has gone from friend to foe but surely HRP can’t be that simple, can it? Looking at his works, I think all the ability is still there and whilst the draw monster hasn’t exactly been kind this time, he has given him a glimmer of hope with gate seven. Let’s hope this brilliant three-year-old can find his winning form and get back to winning ways today.
8 Storm Gloss Arindel Moran D 122 —
The winner of four from nine and unbeaten in his last two he is certainly in form and is working like a stakes horse so gets his chance to prove his worth today. The trip should suit but his best so far has been over a little shorter so there is that question to answer but there are plenty of ticks in boxes here so, if he can overcome the draw, he should run well.
9 War Tactics Cjj Racing Corbett G W 122 —
This horse has won three big ticket claimers in a row so its a shame he gets the car park draw here to try and break out into a higher level. An on-speed type he may be suited by the wide gate speed push and may be hard to pull back if he gets to the rail early and gets a lead on his rivals. Good luck to the trainer who is seeking their first stakes win.
SUMMARY
Well Shoo Fly really does jump off the page here but if there are any chicks in his armor there are a few that will be waiting to exploit it. Semi Auto and Cioppino will relish this trip and Risen Star gets his chance today. An open race where anything could win but Shoo Fly should.
