Nine Face Off in Whittingham

Whittingham Stakes – Grade 2 – $200.000

SA – 1 ¼ Mile – Turf

For Four Year Olds And Upward

April 8, 2023

1 B N Broadway (Choppy Inc.)

This eight-year-old gelding is on a serious roll! He’s won his last three and scored a 101 SRF last out. That win streak includes two graded stakes wins, the San Gabriel and the TAM Stakes. Likes to be close early but can also come from off the pace. Like his chances.

2 Fight The Good Fight (TwinTowersRacing)

Last win came in August at optional claiming level. Has not shown much since. Will have to step it up to compete here.

3 Master Of Disguise (Mb Stables)

Allowance win for this one three starts back. Finished second by just a quarter length in the Connally BC Turf two back. Likes off-going but won’t get it here. Distance is no problem for this colt.

4 High Fives (High Voltage)

Won the DMR Handicap in September and followed that up with a second in the Smith.  Another one that shouldn’t have a problem with the distance. If he can get back to form, he should have a say in this one.

5 Billy Joel (La Canada Racehorses)

Last trip to the winner’s circle came in the San Juan Capistrano in June, but he has been October but several times and has earned two triple-digit SRFs. Has not been able to hit the board in his last three attempts. Needs to bring his A game to win here.

6 Champion In Action (Night Rider Stables)

Won the Lukas Classic in October but has not turned in a good performance since. His last start in the Mineshaft was off a 90-day+ layoff, so maybe you can throw that one out. Still not sure this eight-year-old has what it takes to compete here.

7 Simply Magic (Winning Link Stables)

This gelding has only a maiden win in twelve tries. Even so, he was able to get a start in the BC Turf where he only beat one horse. Unimpressive in his last two starts. Hoping for some racing luck and a big effort here.

8 Bronze Bomber (Threshold)

Has put together a string of nice performances, including a win in the Puss n Boots Cup and a second and third in graded company. Coming in off a win in allowance company. Could get a piece of the purse, and a win wouldn’t be a surprise.

9 Last Way To the Beac (Maximillion Farm)

Second in the San Marcos Stakes last out. Working very well at SA. Looks like he might be getting back to the form that saw him win the AP Million in August.
