Vandelay Paints a Pretty Picture in The Bay Shore

The Bay Shore – Grade III
7 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $200.000 Open 3 Year Olds.

1st Art Vandelay Jokerjoes Corbett G W

I must admit to being a little surprised that the odds monkeys installed this one as a strong favorite to win this race, but they clearly knew something I didn’t because in the end the horse won with some authority. The horse hadn’t won a race since Jokerjoes bought him for $175.000 after a CT Allowance win but there had been excuses so a performance like this was always possible. Traveling in behind the good pace the AI got the timing right and made a decisive move at the furlong pole which proved to be the winning of the race. This lightly tried gelding should be able to kick on after this performance and should be able to assert himself among the three-year-old sprinters.

2nd Semi Auto Threshold Lezcano J

Well, the AI certainly played its tricks with this one today because after a good start he seemed to drop back through the field around halfway and it looked like he was going to fall out of contention, picking a rails run though he made up that lost ground round the turn and into the stretch and in the end finished strongly for second.

3rd Cioppino TwinTowersRacing Davis D

A front runner on a faster pace the last time this one ran in a seven-furlong race today the button was clicked, and he turned into a deep closer after getting well behind from the gate. He flew home for a third place that looked a shade unfortunate that he was taken so far back. Having said that he was third in a graded stakes as a front runner and third as a deep closer today so maybe the running style doesn’t really affect the horses finishing position as much as we think. If he gets it right one day, he will win races like this.

4th Risen Star Spankys Barn Carmouche K

Made the running at a similar pace to that which he won his maiden as a two-year-old and the race ended up being run in a similar time. However, at this level he found some stronger rivals at the end, and he faded to finish fourth after looking the winner on the turn. Plenty of potential here if he can find a way to finish as strongly as he starts.
