The Doubledogdare Stakes may have seemed like an evenly matched race before hand, but in the end, it would become a two-horse race as Ask Forfree Delivery and Retrospect convincingly pulled away from the rest of the field and settled it between themselves. At the wire, it would be the pace setter, Ask Forfree Delivery getting the win by a neck. This four-year-old filly is trained by Arindel and was ridden by L Dettori. For each, it is their first win in the race. Congratulations to them! The winning time was 1:43.30 over the dirt course listed as good. Prior to the race, Third Leg would be scratched, so we were left with just five to battle it out. Here’s a look at how it unfolded!

(1/4 Mile- :23.36)- Ask Forfree Delivery was not messing around in this one, jumping right out to the lead for Arindel and quickly pulling away by almost a length and a half. Running second was Scalp, for Spankys Barn, and she also did break quite well, so but did not have anything for Ask Forfree Delivery in the early stages of the race. Ifyerwokeyerajoke holds third for TwinTowersRacing, and at the back Retrospect (Mb Stables) and Anivia (BomBay Stables) run together, five lengths from the front.

(1/2 Mile- :47.38)- Out front, there’s no catching Ask Forfree Delivery, as she is comfortably out to about a two-length lead over Scalp. That’s the only other horse anywhere close to our leader right now, as you have to go back two and a half lengths for the third place Ifyerwokeyerajoke. At the back and continuing to trail, neither Retrospect nor Anivia are overly concerned with the pace being set by Ask Forfree Delivery at this point.

(Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- Ask Forfree Delivery continues to be cruising along at the front end. She completes the backstretch portion and moves around the turn without even being challenged. Scalp, who had been the only one near her, is unable to make a move on her and now begins to fall back as they reach the exit of the turn. However, there was some trouble lurking for our leader as Retrospect realized she needed to get moving at the top of the turn in order to keep Ask Forfree Delivery from running away with it. She would be the only making up ground, but she was doing so rather quickly. At the top of the stretch, she still had two and a half lengths to make up on the leader, but at the rate she as closing, she could get there. Anivia and Ifyerwokeyerajoke were out of it.

(Finish- 1:43.30)- It wasn’t going to come easy for Ask Forfree Delivery with Retrospect running her down quickly. Ask Forfree Delivery still needed to have something left in the tank herself in order to keep her looming challenger at bay. With every stride, Retrospect was getting closer and closer, but as we approached the wire, it was looking like Ask Forfree Delivery was doing just enough to hang on for the win. Retrospect would need even more, but she would be unable to do so as Ask Forfree Delivery picks up the win by a neck. You have to go back four and a half lengths for the third place Scalp, who finishes ahead of Anivia and Ifyerwokeyerajoke.

About The Winner- Ask Forfree Delivery, trained by Arindel, and ridden to victory by L Dettori, is a four-year-old filly by Ask The Experts, and is out of Brilly Mach. She was bred in the great breeding state of Pennsylvania as a second quarter two-year-old by Williams9, and was acquired by Arindel unraced in private sales, in June 2021, for $160.000. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her sixth in fifteen starts, her third stake win, and second graded win. Her career earnings are now $585.490.
