5 CD The Walker
$225.000 3yo 5 1/2f Turf 122lbs
The vans have pulled out of town and the TC Circus left for Baltimore, but we catch a nice group of sophomore sprinters that will look at the CD turf course to do battle in The Walker, going five and a half furlongs. Can you fault Greeks Get It today? I just don’t think so… the gray gelding has won all four ’23 starts, five in a row and just looks to be too tough to tame right now. Let’s go to the rail and give Pluck Around Boy a shot to be in the frame. He’s won four of seven starts, all wins coming on the weeds and he looks ready to run another bang-up race today.
Here’s The Field –
Four wins from seven starts, all on the grass, and his only stakes start was a fourth in the Baffle at SA, so he knows how, but can he do it vs back-type horses? He’s a nice horse, so I think you have to give him a puncher’s chance in this one.
After that debut fiasco, it’s been nothing but Kodak moments for this one, including back-to-back turf wins in the Texas Glitter and the Palisades, the later on a soggy KEE turf course. He’s about as solid a turf sprinter as you could want to see, and I only see his success continuing… he is fast!
He’s changed hands a couple of times, but certainly knows what being a racehorse is all about. Nice second in the Texas Glitter, then a third in the Palisades, so he knows all about the two horse. Can he flip the script and get home on top in this one?
Private purchase after his last race, a OptAlw win at SA and they go right after black type with him. On the board in eight of ten, four of those were wins, so he’s shown that he knows how to get the job done. Still, moving up to stakes is adventurous, facing this group.
Comes off of the TC Trail after a fifth in the Gotham (GIII) and an eighth in the Wood Memorial (GII) but he’s shown some love of the green stuff with a 1-2-1 record from five lawn tries. The big barn knows a horse and I think he could be a big factor at decent odds. Don’t sleep on him.
Only a maiden win for this one, and he was sixth in the Eddie on the SA down-hill course, so this looks like a tough spot if he wants to get home first today. He could surprise, but I think I have to look at some others.
Claimed for $35.000, broke maiden and was fourth in the Hutchinson, which is nothing to shake your head at. Then just missed on the SA down-hill course vs sAlw types, so he’s been right there in all starts for this barn. He should come with some odds, so if you like him, it’s a good spot to hit the windows.
Both of his wins have been on the lawn, breaking maiden at DMR and winning an OptAlw race at SA. He was fifth in the Logan and sixth in the Shaker (GII), so he’s going to need to step it up a bit if he wants to be a factor with this group.
Another with two turf wins but was eighth of ten in his only stakes start. Now that was the main track, so maybe his best efforts come on the green stuff. He certainly like the wet grass last out, so they may be hopin’ for a downpour.
