The only blips on this one’s record recently were in grade ones and her last run where she finished worse than second was when she was beaten 5 lengths by Oceanus. Today though this mare now a five-year-old, was backed into favorite and just managed to shade the BC champ close home. She is developing into a really consistent mare, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see her back in the BC and getting much closer this time.

2nd Oceanus Wood Duck Stables Hernandez R M

Life is tough when the champion three’s turn four, but she has run two very honest races, and I feel that as the months click by, she will be catching up to the older ones and ready to defend her crown.

3rd Afar D J C Racing Stables Wilson E J

Flew home for third in a black book run from the wide gate. I am liking the way this filly is progressing and there will be success in the very near future for the daughter of Distant Sunset.

This one’s last win came in a mile and three eighths Turf Handicap so it stands to reason she would be pushing them hard in a six-furlong sprint. Once again, we are reminded that a good horse is a good horse at HRP over any surface or trip, and she wasn’t far from pulling off the win today. I have no idea what her best trip or surface is, but she keeps telling me it doesn’t matter.
