The Blame – Grade III
CD Race #8 1 1/8m Dirt Graded Stake
Purse $225.000 For Four Year Olds And Upward.
1 Killer Instinct Mb Stables Gaffalione T 122 —
Won the OK Derby and was third in the grade one Clark as a three year old but the race engine or the trainer seemed to have turned him into a closer this year which has seen eye catching runs but without the same success, His works are sharp as they always are from this stable but he will need to get his act together out of the gate. If he does he is a winning chance.
2 Pookie Winning Link Stables Loveberry J 122 —
The old adage here working like a BC winner could be a claimer although he has a few good runs at a lower level stakes level. He gets a better draw today which will help his cause and if he can stop running impressive speed figures and start winning races he could be a very good chance.
3 Boogaloo London Racing Hernandez B J Jr 122 —
He has been really consistent this year and very nearly won the grade two Californian last time. This is a four year old on the up and for me is the one that is flying under the radar. That last run would be good enough to see him winning this.
4 G O O B A Fractious Geroux F 122 —
Its always funny when you find one of the least likely to win on form in a race like this running the fastest work times it just goes to show how far removed we are from the old days when work times were the big difference between horses. The trainer bought this one at auction from Mb Stables and has him in a good vein of form and a win would be no surprise.
5 Oleg Arindel Saez L 122 —
He hasn’t looked the same horse that was winning the CT Classic and finishing third in the BC Mile last year but as we know horses can flick around performances with very little clue as to why these days and if he came back to his best today he would win doing hand stands. His works are OK and if he can get a good start we may see the old Oleg again.
6 Sunset Wolf Night Rider Stables Beschizza A 122 —
Claimed for $5, turned into a stakes winner what ever this stable feeds these claimers i wish i had some. There is no doubt that it happens so often that it is more that luck or quantity and this ex $5 claimer is suddenly the fastest worker in the race. The trainer was so unconvinced of their purchase they ran him back in a $3 claimer and then again in a $6 one before taking an allowance win and then the Knicks Go last time out. 3 months ago i wouldn’t have given him a chance, today he could win.
SUMMARY
Another short field and another race where a good case can be made for all of them. Sunset Wolf is working crazy times and seems to have found some really good drugs so he may well be the one to topple the bigger names along with Gooba who is also improving. Boogaloo may be the form horse here and it could be the proven class of his and Killer Instincts that overcomes the lightening works, we will just have to see.
