Aristides BC ($225.000 Purse)
CD- For Four Year Olds and Upward
Six Furlongs on the Dirt
June 3, 2023
The Aristides BC seemed like a race that would be up for grabs, but Demon would make sure there was no doubt about who the best horse in the field actually was. He was the post time favorite, as well as being our pick to win, but I was surprised to see just how heavily bet that he was. Coming off a good-looking runner up in the Carter Handicap, Demon would go wire to wire here for his fifth career victory. The Crossing The Rubicon colt is trained by Wood Duck Stables, who earns their first career Aristides BC win, and it was the second career win for jockey F Geroux, who had also won the race back in 2016 with the late Hold My Steel. The time of the win was 1:08.58, which is the second quickest winning time in the history of the race. Let’s take a look at it now!
(1/4 Mile- :22.28)- Out of the gate, it will be the eventual winner, Demon, wasting no time in asserting himself as the race leader for Wood Duck Stables. Running down the backstretch, he would pull out about two lengths ahead of the rest of the field while not killing himself with this opening fraction. They are side by side for second, but with a nose in front here, it is Crimson Sun, out of Riggins Racing having the edge over the Fractious-trained Fractious. A length behind them, we have America First, who runs on the rail for TwinTowersRacing, and Tiz Trippi who is in the fourth lane for Rock Creek. Seeing them all in front of him is Audioslave (Alydar Stables).
(1/2 Mile- :45.16, Top of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- At the front of the field, Demon has absolutely no problem at all handling the turn as he maintains his two-length advantage. Entering the top of the stretch, no one had even come close to challenging him yet, so Wood Duck Stables was certainly pleased with how this was unfolding. Crimson Sun and Sauna were still side by side for second and being more content to race one another than in concerning themselves with Demon. America First and Tiz Trippi were still a length behind them while Audioslave closed in just a little bit.
(Finish- 1:08.58)- This race belongs to Demon. At the top of the stretch, he continued to run well, and there was simply nothing the rest of the field could do about it. Maybe they were expecting him to come back to him, but if so, that was definitely the wrong plan. It’s a comfortable win for Demon, who was never pressured in a length and a half victory. Crimson Sun is the best of the rest, and for that he completes the exacta by a head over Tiz Trippi with Audioslave fourth. But in reality, that’s just wagering and purse bookkeeping, because none of them were threats here. America First and Sauna round it out.
About The Winner- Demon, trained by Wood Duck Stables and ridden to victory by F Geroux, is a four-year-old colt by Crossing The Rubicon and is out of La Diabla. He was bred in Ontario by Arindel as a second quarter two-year-old and was acquired by Wood Duck Stables in private sales for $150.000 in July 2021, after just one career start. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his fifth in 15 starts and his fourth stake win. His career earnings are now $623.000.
