In Retrospect, the Winner of The Shuvee Should’ve Been Obvious

The Shuvee – Grade II
1 1/8 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $200.000 Filly & Mare 4 Year Olds And Up.

1st Retrospect Mb Stables Prat F

Mb Stable’s hold on the SAR meet title is such that this mare turned around 3 lengths from their last meeting with Ask Forfree Delivery to win yet another race for the stable and put the meet title out of everyone’s reach even at this early stage. Last time she looked ordinary; this time she looked like the mare we know she is, go figure. As we have to do with HRP form these days though is look at her body of work rather than her last race and apart from her flat run in the Phipps she had been consistent at the highest level. Today she had plenty in hand and I am sure come the BC she will be a strong chance in whatever race she chooses.

2nd Jinxed Artist Smokey Stover Castellano J J

How often have we seen this one-two in fillies and mares’ races in the past few years. This consistent filly ran a great race from a wide draw pushing for the lead from halfway and close up throughout. In the end she couldn’t match the winners finish who had raced with more cover but ran a super race to be second.

3rd Afar D J C Racing Stables Gaffalione T

Ran a solid race and is a nice filly who has proven herself on both surfaces and many different trips. That is a good sign and I feel as this one matures, she will be winning her fair share of graded stakes races,

4th Ask Forfree Delivery Arindel Davis D

When she was second in the Phipps the pace was far quicker than it was today and yet she kept going all the way to the line. Today on a softer pace she held a similar position but just whacked away at the one pace. That would probably tell someone better than me a lot about this filly, but I am not sure what to put it down to. On her last two efforts it has to be said this effort was a little disappointing,
