One Mile and Three Sixteenths on the Turf

It was a wet one in Upstate New York today, and virtual SAR was not spared from the rain. The result of this precipitation left us with a yielding turf course and two horses, Copper Jewels and Bombing For Peace, scratching out. That meant that our pick to win the race would not be taking part. Taking advantage of the off track would be Untidy, a filly from Mb Stables that may have needed to catch a good break. She had no problem with the track, or her rivals, jumping out to the lead and opening up a big lead before holding off her stablemate at the wire. For Mb Stables, it’s his first win in the race, and that is also true for jockey J R Velazquez. Congratulations to them! The time of the race was 1:56.41. Let’s take a look at it!

(1/2 Mile- :48.87)- Three horses vie for the early lead down the frontstretch, and it would be our eventual winner, Untidy, prevailing in that battle for Mb Stables. She runs in the third lane as they move around the opening turn, and leads by a length as they reach a half mile. Running nearby to her are Smokey Stover’s Mo Ki Mo, as well as Proper, for Pan Farms. After a length and a half, it’s Modern Marvel (TwinTowersRacing) running fourth, and November Storm (Mb Stables) at the back of the pack.

(3/4 Mile- 1:13.43)- Untidy is looking very clean out on the front end, and having no problems with the yielding surface. She pulls out to a lead of a little more than a length, with only Mo Ki Mo being able to keep up with her. The other one that had been in the picture, Proper, is already beginning to back out of it. Modern Marvel and November Storm have not made a push yet, but have not lost any ground, either.

(Top of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- Moving around the turn, Untidy has gotten away from the field and would seem to have the race in the bag. Still, there was more than enough time for another horse to make a bid, but it would have to be an incredible effort. There was one horse looming as a challenger, but that would only make Mb Stables grin wider. November Storm began to make her push, and was now even with Mo Ki Mo for second. Modern Marvel was only maintaining ground, and Proper was making plans for her next race at this point.

(Finish- 1:46.81)- Untidy continues to look good early in the stretch, and even with her stablemate making progress, it didn’t seem like November Storm was going to get in her. There were no other challengers, so Mb Stables could smile about his imminent 1-2 finish. At the wire, it would be Untidy getting the win, although November Storm never backed down and made a run for it, making the official margin of victory merely by a neck. It was four lengths back to the distant third place finisher, Mo Ki Mo, and then Modern Marvel and Proper.

About The Winner- Untidy, trained by Mb Stables and ridden to victory by J R Velazquez, is a three year old filly by Lil Pink Panther and is out of Play It Forward. She was bred in California as a second quarter two year old by Two Hearts One Love, and was acquired by Mb Stables while she was still unraced for $32.010 in the June 2022 auction. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her fourth in eight starts, her third stake win, and second graded win. Her career earnings are now $560.000. It was the 989th career graded stake win for Mb Stables, as he inches closer to 1,000!
