The Skidmore
5 1/2 Furlongs Turf Stake Purse $150.000 Open 2 Year Olds.
1st Classy City Asgar Franco M
We won’t know how much the off track contributed to this performance until later in his career, but he overcame a wide trip today and stuck on very bravely. At only 15.1hh you would expect him to struggle against larger and more mature types, but he has now had four races and won two of them including this race which is a fairly high-profile juvenile at this time of the year. We are seeing a few smaller horses win this year showing that once again real-life pointers aren’t easy to assess at HRP without an eyes-on assessment of maturity. He ran the stalk today like he was racing on a straight track losing nothing from the wide trip and even pulling away in the last half furlong which seems to happen especially on wet tracks with this race engine. There are still question marks, but he is certainly going the right way and looks to be a nice prospect.
2nd English Farley Arkansas Elite Saez L
His last work was nearly 3 lengths quicker than the winner, so it was surprising that with a run inside it that he didn’t go past him down the stretch. That though is how HRP is at the moment though, works no longer have a direct effect on the result and previous form seems to mean little from race to race so it really does become difficult to choose the winner with any consistency. He was right with Classy City throughout the race but found nothing down the stretch and we won’t really know until further down the road just how the off track effected this result.
3rd Sink Arindel Gaffalione T
Close enough but didn’t quicken down the stretch although to be fair to him nothing really made ground. This was an improved effort after his last start and there is clearly some ability to be worked with.
4th Sitting Bulls Envy El Primero Rodeo Leparoux J R
Actually, ran past a few but never looked like getting to the first three.
