KD Ladies Turf Serves Up Massive Purse for Thirteen Lasses

KD Ladies Turf – Grade III
KD Race #3 1m Turf Graded Stake
Purse $1,000.000 For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward.

1 Grande Sunset Mb Stables Saez L 122 —

When there is a $1,000.000 purse on the line it is a bit ominous for the opposition when Mb Stables gets two great draws and two horses that ran up on the pace to win last time out. This filly was a very good three-year-old winning the Summertime Oaks and taking home a paycheck in the grade one CCA oaks and Alabama. Lightly raced as a four-year-old, the trainer has been waiting for the development curve to start moving again and they must be confident that she is ready to run up to her best three-year-old form today. After eleven races on the dirt, she took on her first turf race last time out and made all the running to win, which we see so often with a change in surface at HRP, so whist it doesn’t say she is better on grass, it does say she won’t mind it.
She is certainly capable of winning, but her form doesn’t jump off the page like some in this race does.

2 La Terrifiant Smokey Stover Gutierrez Mario 122 —

If you don’t know this name, then you probably have been living in a box because she has been one of the best horses HRP has ever seen and looks to use this race to click her up closer to the illusive $10,000.000 mark. At eight years old we are all waiting for the inevitable slide in form, but she is not showing signs of slowing down yet and gets in here with the perfect draw. Of course, there are no run of ten wins in a row for her because this is HRP and whilst she is brilliant it doesn’t take much to bring her back to her rivals, so as great as she is we know she is beatable. The bottom line is most every player without a runner will be cheering her on and even one or two trainers in this race will be secretly hoping she wins. Good Luck to the legend that is La Terrifiant.

3 Wander Mb Stables Velazquez J R 122 —

The second Mb runner and more of a genuine turfer than their other starter, highly consistent through her career she was very good in the Balliston last time on an off track and those conditions may be her best hope of beating La Terrifiant today. Like most of the Mb runners she seems to be able to find the stalk or lead at will on this new race engine so I suspect she will look for a position close to her stable mate on the speed and with the trainers record in these $1,000.000 plus races she must be a very good winning chance.

4 Ponzi Scheme TwinTowersRacing Hernandez R M 122 —

Well, her works are as good as any here including the great champion La Terrifiant and that goes to show how judging ability by works is a thing of the past. Yes, she can work fast but as yet she hasn’t really shown that ability on the track however, knowing this stable, today could be the day she does. Another that has found her liking for this new on pace engine the interesting thing will be how the race engine sorts out all the on pace types out. If she gets her chance, she could be the surprise package.

5 Tropical Mama Maxmillion Farm Carrasco V R 122 —

An interesting first entry of two for the Turf King because if this was a real life race, I would say this was an obvious pacemaker for her stable mate. Having said that sprinting, routing, turf or dirt do not seem to really matter at HRP with good horses so it’s probably best to treat her as a legitimate chance. She was a very close fourth in the Royal North so we know she has ability and with just about every runner wanting to stalk or lead it will be interesting to see how the AI rides her. She could be one of those big-priced winners.

6 Ma Petite Penne Night Mare Racing Franco M 122 —

Only broke her maiden at the start of the year but has proven herself to be a decent filly since with four seasonal wins and two graded stakes pay checks. Yet another that wants to be leading or stalking so much will rely on how the race engine sorts them out so it is hard to weigh her up in terms of where she will finish. She has the ability, and she is still untapped talent after taking eight races to break her maiden.

7 Super Fam Team 7 Illusions Corrales G 119 —

With the three-year-olds having such an advantage in the second part of the year, I am amazed we are seeing just one take on the older horses. Looking at her form and works she would have zero chance at level weights but the three pounds she gets for being a three-year-old has proven nothing short of rocket fuel to other three-year-olds, so you have to take her presence very seriously.

8 Toxins London Racing Prat F 122 —

She was looking like one of the up and comers of the year as she took her third race in a row when winning the Just A Game but as seems to be happening more often than not, she then ran a bit of a dud when fourth in the Diana. It wasn’t a bad effort she just didn’t flash home like she had in her previous three races but being back to the mile here may be the secret. At her best she may get a decent trip behind a bunch of horses trying to lead and snake her way through to get up late.

9 Classic Princess Maxmillion Farm Jimenez A 122 —

The second stable runner, this six-year-old is an accomplished runner with a great record with five graded stakes wins and a grade one on her record. She is having another consistent year but seems to find it harder to win these days and is drawn in an awkward gate. She likes the mile and certainly has the class I am just not sure she has the legs to challenge for the win.

10 Inquisition Arindel Centeno D E 122 —

That old adage of picking your way through a career means nothing to this five-year-old who is already having her 41st start and seems to love a hard day’s work. Nearing the $1,000.000 in prize money her three wins this year seem to sum HRP up perfectly as she has won at graded level both in a five-and-a-half-furlong sprint and a mile and sixteenth route. I have no idea what her best trip is but so far this year the mile hasn’t been it and with a difficult draw she may find it too tough. Having said that she is certainly in this race with a chance, which admittedly doesn’t mean much as they all do, but she will have to be on her game to do it.

11 Omnibus High Voltage Lopez P 122 —

Fourth in the Caress last time she is better known as a miler and has run some very nice races this year at that trip. Yet another that likes to be on the speed she may find the wider gate helps her with that as the race engine desperately tries to pick who will lead. She is capable of running a sub 1.33 mile off the front as she proved in the Wiltshire and that would be good enough to put a lot of these in trouble.

12 Creepy Lass Mo Mentum Farm Geroux F 122 —

In great form this year with 6 wins from 8 she was claimed in March for just $25.000 and has quickly paid that back with interest. She won the preview for this race which was a very nice purse to be running against just four rivals and this is a very different proposition. The wide draw will make it tough especially with so much pace inside her, but she earned the right to be here and on works at least is as good as anything.

13 Saddle Up Our Athletes Dettori L 122 —

A decent mare but the number of the gate says it all. Her best chance may come if the others all cut each other’s throats trying to lead giving her a run at them wide, but the race engine can give them too much to do and she will have to stay wide to have a chance. On form she is good enough to be a contender and there is one version of this race in which she wins, her trainer can only hope that is the version we see today.

SUMMARY

If, as we have been led to believe, all these good horses have been on HL all year then the AI is going to have a tough time working through a scenario that doesn’t have eight horses in a row going round the turn. With most form lines in most races favoring on pace it is just a matter of what the race engine and AI does to your preferred runner as to whether you have a chance of picking up the win.
Let’s face it, it is a $1,000.000 race so Mb already has an advantage and of course the great La Terrifiant is in there with a perfect draw to ensure there won’t be a dry eye in the house should her colors go by in front.
So, with all that I am going to try for an outsider and get some value with an each way bet on Ponzi Scheme, which if you think about it would be a rather ironic winner.
