Bed O Roses Handicap (Grade 3)- $150.000 Purse
BEL- For Fillies and Mares Four Years Old and Upward
Seven Furlongs on the Dirt
June 25, 2016
A field of six is set to go to post in the 10th edition of the Bed O Roses Handicap, which gives female four year olds and upward a chance to avoid three year olds and race amongst themselves in a handicap of their own. Weights are pretty much constant through the field. Now, before I get started, I apologize to those in the field for an article that is not up to my normal standards. I am not currently happy with the game, based on a recent event discussed in the forum, and I simply cannot look at this race with a clear head.
#1- Indiana Sunstar (A And I Stables, ridden by K Carmouche)- Makes her third start for her current connections since being purchased in private sales for $25.000. She’s yet to win a graded event, but has been a steady participant in these races. Last time out at this distance, she won.
#2- Millyon Mama (Pumpkin Racing, ridden by J J Castellano)- The Meals On Wheels mare has won 10 of her 29 career starts, including a handful of ungraded stakes. Most recently she won the $100.000 Skipat at PIM. The highlight of her career thus far is when she won the Grade 2 Great Lady M Stakes at LAD about a year ago.
#3- Donna Chang (Mb Stables, ridden by L Saez)- It’ll be a jump forward for the Condottieri filly, as she has spent the year running in allowances at TUP and GG. Those results saw her get to the winner’s circle often, taking three of five, and now Mb looks to see what she can do against tougher rivals.
#4- Smokin Toni (Rockitpad, ridden by J Rosario)- She knows how to get it done, as half of her races have ended up with her in the winner’s circle (6 of 12), and she has hit the board in 10 of those races. Hasn’t always faced big fields, but she’ll be a threat here. Four of her last six races have been on off tracks.
#5- Xanadu Magic Tf (D J C Racing Stables, ridden by E Cancel)- She was purchased in private sales on Tuesday for $30.000, so likely the first thing the new trainer did was enter her in this race. It’s an interesting decision that makes you wonder if D J C sought her out specifically for this race, as he hasn’t otherwise been able to sit down and analyze his new purchase.
#6- Danzing Logic (Riggins Racing, ridden by J Alvarado)- Had an excellent two year old season that saw her be an entry in the BC Juvenile Fillies, and she did win a race later that month. Since then, she has not lived up to her potential, and this will be just her second race since the Alabama in August of 2015. Overall, she has a layoff of about four months.
Prediction: 2-4-6-1
