  1  SA   BC Juvenile Turf Sprint – GII

Asgar gets the day kicked-off with a bit of a long-shot as Off Break, sent to post with odds of 14/1 gets the win by a length, while stopping the clock in :56.59 and taking the lion’s share of the $1,000.000 purse home with the victory in the BC Juv Turf Sprint (GII).  LionKing Stables’ Zeus The Great was forwardly placed throughout, but had to settle for the second spot, three-quarters of a length better than the Mb Stables’ duo of Seeking Attention in third, a neck better than his barn-mate Neutral in fourth.  The SA sod was listed as firm, and six lengths covered the field.

The flag was up, the gate opened and off and running in the 2023 BC Juv Turf Sprint… of course no lack of interest in wanting the early advantage and we had a group of thirteen within a length of each other in the opening furlong, English Farley and Zeus The Great from the outside, Fairfield Strong and Chief Style Warrior in the middle of the track, Off Break and Neutral on the inside… then True If Big, Runhappy Hound, Sitting Bulls Envy on the rail, John Crow Dem, Seeking Attention,   Exemplary and Chaparral Cowboy, and Fox Off was slow from the gate and the early trailer.

The field continued into and now mid-way around the far turn with two furlongs to run, they were spacing out a bit, but not a lot changing… Fairfield Strong with the lead,  Zeus The Great on his flank leading the chase that included Off Break from the rail, English Farley still wide, back down to Chief Style Warrior, True If Big back towards the outside, then to the rail for Neutral and Sitting Bull Envy, Runhappy Hound on their outside, John Crow Dem five wide and Seeking Attention just to the inside of that one.   Chaparral Cowboy caught wide, then Exemplary and Fox Off could still see them all.

Into the lane and now at the furlong marker, Off Break had seen enough and pushed clear by a length and a half.  Zeus The Great trying to find more, Fairfield Strong still in the mix, then a wall of four that included Neutral and Sitting Bulls Envy on the inside, Chief Style Warrior down the center of the track and True If Big down the outside.  Seeking Attention finding a seem and inching up, English Farley widest of all, back to the inside for Runhappy Hound, John Crow Dem and Chaparral Cowboy moving together, Exemplary and Fox Off.

Now in deep stretch and to the wire, this wasn’t about who, but how much… Off Break had made this a one-horse race to the wire and the gray powered home to win unchallenged, by more than the one length that was posted in the results, giving Asgar their second BC win.  Zeus The Great tried to make a race of it but was second best on this afternoon, then three-quarters of a length to Seeking Attention, closing to be third.  Neutral was a neck back in fourth, True if big nosed out the dead head of Sitting Bulls Envy and Fairfield Strong.  Exemplary was eighth, Chaparral Cowboy ninth, Chief Style Warrior tenth, Fox Off eleventh, John Crow Dem twelfth, Runhappy Hound thirteenth and English Farley rounded this one out.
