Two things made sense about this win, one, the trainer just loves competing and they don’t care about the odds and invariably they can find some outstanding performances from their horses. Secondly sub 1.35 mile works and a 1.09 and 2 6-furlong work suggested this one had started a late journey up her improvement curve, you only have to compare her last four works with her previous portfolio to see that. Inevitably it is that second point coupled with a trainer willing to give it a go that produces winners like this because if you try and make sense of it by looking at their race record you will be hitting your head against the wall for a long time.
So today she bounced the gate, dictated the pace and strolled home like an odds-on chance looking stronger at the end of a mile and three eighths than she ever has done over shorter trips. Congratulations to her owner for not giving up on her.

A grade one winner over nine furlongs last time taking on a horse beaten in a sprint last time, you wouldn’t want to think too hard about the result of this meeting. The fact is this is a grade one performer when the rain is around but on a dry track her lack of early pace is a big hindrance at this level and on this race engine. She was a long way back and made good ground for second, but the AI seemed to forget the leader was in the race and never got close to her. If the track is off next time put the money down, if not be cautious.

Winner of the Waya over this trip last time she ran pretty similar splits today in stalking the leader, but I have seen so many wide gates go to the stalk and weaken that despite the odds being against it I was just waiting for it to happen.

4th Niagra Keys Alydar Stables Espinoza V

Again, a closing style on this race engine proves just too hard especially when the AI saw fit in taking this one so far back that most people forgot it was even in the race. She made plenty of ground to be fourth, but the rather slow early pace set the race up for the on-speed horses and she never got into it.
