Fire Chase Is Dominant in The Brown

It was an upside-down day at CD today as wider gates won all but one of the races and it definitely looked an advantage in having a wide draw. This home-bred son of Chase My Tail Lights went to a wide stalk which can sometimes be the kiss of death particularly with a strong pace, but he was so superior that he won pretty much in hand by just under a length and looks a very nice prospect going forward,

Ran the draw well but once again looked a little weak in the finish ending up a nice second but never really looking like he would beat the winner. Under normal circumstances the trainer would look to geld the horse to try and find a bit of heart in a finish, but they did that prior to this race, and it made no real difference. If this one strengthens up and the trainer can find the right tactic, he could be useful as a three-year-old.

3rd California Class Arkansas Elite Ferrer J C 3.85 31/2 1:15.65

I expected this one to go to the front from the car park, but he was restrained into a mid-pack position (either by design or AI) and never got close enough to look a danger to the winner. It is worth noting that at 15.1hh and with 7 races under his belt he has done pretty well but the trainer will be hoping for some growth over the Winter to give him that little extra.

Another good effort staying on nicely for fourth he is a big rangy sort who may appreciate a trip.
